Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for my dh's grandfather. He is nearing the end of his life and his body has begun to shut down. He is a former Catholic and a wonderful loving man.

Also that if we go to stay with family out of state that the timing will be right and that we won't be in the way (we are the only ones with children 2 and under)

Thank you

Evie - I'm praying for your dh's grandfather, for a peaceful and holy death.

I know your concerns with staying with relatives and being the "only ones"...I'm sending prayers for you that all the practicals work out when they are needed.

Thanks so much for your prayers.

He passed away this weekend. I don't know details as dh spoke with my SIL and I didn't want to press him. However they are respecting his grandfather's wish to not have a funeral or memorial of any kind.

This is rather devastating for us as we had decided it would be more important to be there for the family during the funeral than to go before his death (we figured we'd end up in the way with everyone in and out of the hospital). Now my dh is upset as we could have gone and been there last week if we had known there would not be a funeral. Anyhow...If you could continue to pray that dh and other relatives would receive the closure and space to mourn that they need in spite of the lack of a place/time to do so.

Thanks.

In His Sacred Wounds,
Evie

Evie, that is such a sadness for your family. There is great peace from closure. I wonder, could you ask your family priest to offer Mass for him and celebrate that Mass with your husband and family so that you will have some closure and be offering beautiful prayers for the repose of your dh's grandfather's soul? Then, maybe you could spend the rest of the day celebrating your grandfather - favorite meals, favorite movie, favorite things he did with your kids and husband. Just a thought.

I am certainly praying for the repose of his soul and for peace for your family!

These are wonderful suggestions. However given this is my dh's grandfather it is up to him to decide how to proceed. I will mention having a mass offered for him though. That is perhaps, a little more under the radar. I don't think he wants to dishonor his grandfather's wishes but is simultaneously disappointed there will not be a memorial or funeral of any kind.
