As I've posted before my husband is in hospital for a respiratory rehabilitation program which requires overnight inpatient registration from M-F. The program runs for 6-8 weeks. Today begins Week 3 for my hubby and as caretaker I've been coached along behind the scenes by the (wonderful) staff from the hospital informing me week #3 and #4 either make or break the participants of the program. Not only has my husband been given a 12 hour/day individualized program with multiple activities all day long, he is also monitored hourly and prescribed oxygen therapy at night while he sleeps. Medically he needed this right NOW as he has shockingly regressed greatly from his degenerative lung disease. The doctors are treating this like a pre-op towards the lifesaving surgery he will need soon. The program is excellent.
We know he must stay in it to reap all the benefits it offers. Heightened positive morale and much cheerleading really do mean everything at this stage as the goal is to graduate from the program certainly, but although all-good, living in a hospital has created much strain and been so emotionally (physically, mentally and spiritually) tough for him. It has become his Lent for sure. He obviously has no visitors because we just moved here and we live well over an hour away with slick icy roads separating us.
I humbly ask you to remember him in prayer for this week ahead, for its success that he can continue to "run the race", for his spirits to remain calm as he rolls through his structured and very exhausting days, and for the rest of us at home who are coping the best we can but it's been so hard, especially when he leaves again for another week long stay!
Today also marks a hard day as my husband's roommate heads for a lung reduction operation after being told last Thursday he is not a candidate for a lung transplant. It is a serious operation for him, very risky due to his current situation and with this operation at the helm of the week, naturally every patient in the program is on edge. Please pray for "Brent" today and all 23 of the patients working with great lung diseased driven medical difficulties on varying stages of the same program, with thanks, so very much thanks in advance.
***Mar 4,09
Emotions ran ultra high last week when all the patients found out Brent survived the high risk lung reduction operation. They were told he was recovering well, but a nurse informed all he was sent back to the ICU again a few days ago. Would you please continue to offer prays for him?
We are into Week 4 this week (half way but it feels like forever), and the respiratory rehab program is becoming so much tougher, if that's possible. My husband felt defeat begin to creep in and was tempted to quit twice last week before remembering the outcome promised for his health. ugh
It's been a deeply emotional time for everyone but a real toughie came this past weekend after our teens took note of him slipping into a sudden state of panic, unable to breathe normally after a sudden cold windy air hit them while on their way out to warm up the vehicle after a hockey game. The teens were brave and were able to coach him through, but gosh, another new learning curve item. Note to self; The vehicle must be warmed up when out on excursions in winter, (or cooled in summer) from now on before he exits a building! ack!
Today I am taking things into my own hands, praying for a fine weathered day, because I taking a road trip and driving to see my man, with cheery room decor and love packages in hand, even bringing a suit and tie too, because I am (can you keep a secret? shhhhh....) whisking him away, breaking him outta there and taking him to an early evening dinner so we can be alone for a short time. Gonna offer him big smooches and celebrate our wedding anniversary(it's really tomorrow so he won't suspect a thing!). After 32 years, I simply refuse to let this time apart get in our way this week! A celebration in Lent? You betcha! The GPS is packed, and I am happily and sneakily preparing for the day ahead...hee hee (Gotta leave early because I just noticed a run in my nylons, must replace them first. LOL )
All kidding aside, please pray for good weather today for me to take this journey (it's been icy slick and freezing cold), so I don't get lost along the way, and of course, for the continued success of this difficult time for my husband and all the patients involved as they live there away from their families.

Thank you for asking Chari, and for the continued prayers from everyone here. I so appreciate you all!
The hospital break-out (wink) went wonderful, so emotional though, whew. I wrote about it on my blog. Today my husband left at 5am. to re-enter his respiratory in-patient program, which is always tough on everyone. He's half way through the program, it's very difficult and challenging every fiber of his being, but I'm sure it will be - all good.
Have to share this...there was a fellow patient in my husband's hospital community, a man who tended to sit quietly at the back of the crowd each morning during the same breathing exercise physio class. My husband had the opportunity to introduce himself and a conversation ensued. The man asked my husband if he had children, and in return my husband said "yes, eight. Do you have children?". Of course mentioning the amount of children to him, next question came up "are you or your wife Catholic by chance", to which my husband replied "yes". Small talk ensued leading my husband to believe he too was Catholic, and my husband then asked if he was able to get away on weekends to get to mass. The man turned to my husband and said "you don't know my background do you?". He said "I am a Catholic priest and I'm the one who says mass here on Sunday in the chapel downstairs."
The following morning, the man greeted my husband by name, with a huge grin. In response, my husband said "Good morning Father ..." and his smile radiated throughout the room, both sharing the non intended secret, but what a great thing for my hubby to discover. I know the next few weeks will take a turn now, tough as they have become. Emotions are still high, but God does work in mysterious ways, doesn't he? ''

What an amazing story - meeting Father!!! I can't help but be amazed at God's goodness as you relate this! I'm certain He is allowing both of those men to bolster, encourage, and pray for the other in this program. What a consolation for your husband and for Father!
The "break-out" story on your blog was just amazing, Renee! You are a beautiful example of a loving and tender wife! How good you are to have the supernatural vision to see beyond the daily nitty-gritty of suffering going on with your husband and to set aside a special time to be together as husband and wife. I'm so touched and inspired!
Your husband and family are never far from my thoughts and prayers, and I'm sending more for Father now!

Oh yes, thank you! Please do pray for Father too! Being an in-patient in the same hospital program as my husband, Father is also suffering from a degenerative lung disease accompanied by a lousy prognosis like all those surrounding him.
I had to chuckle about the part when my husband returned the question asking Father if he too had children...LOL My husband says it has now become a "had to be there" giggle between the two of them after the fact. How I admire these men dealing with their illnesses, the day to day sufferings and hardships just to try to breathe properly. It isn't easy for any of the patients in there.
Thank you all for your love and kindness. My "leaky eye syndrome" still hits me at any given moment when emotions can become all too much, woman that I.I am so very deeply touched by all of you. Thank you! Thank you!
