Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Today I saw one of the most beautiful photos I have seen in a long while ...

Back in April a young mother, Abigail Witchalls, was stabbed and left for dead. She survived, but was unable to speak and completely paralysed from the neck down. Deeply committed Catholics, Abigail, her husband and their families gave an extraordinary witness of faith and courage as she battled to survive. Her brother-in-law, a seminarian in Rome, prayed at the tomb of Pope John Paul for her recovery. Confounding the doctors, she not only won her battle for life, but has recovered her speech, has movement in one arm, and is continuing to make progress. Earlier this month she was able to leave hospital and return home to her husband and young son. And now for the rest of the miracle ... when Abigail was stabbed she was several weeks pregnant. Against all the odds the baby survived and was born safely on November 15th. Today's newspaper included a wonderful, joyful picture of the family following the baptism of baby Dominic which you can see here. You can read more about her story in this article.

Please say a prayer of thanksgiving for this joy that has come to this family who have been through so much, and another prayer for Abigail's continued recovery. Thank you!

I appreciate the update, Kathryn. I had followed the story in the spring - so it's great to know about her recovery and this new little baby's birth.

If this story doesn't make one weep for joy, I don't know what story will. Thanks for sharing the article, Kathryn. I love how it includes the strength of motherhood, natural birth, breastfeeding, prayer and the Roman Catholic Church in addition to the amazing survival story.

Love,
