Father Richard Neuhaus, Editor of First Things is seriously ill, just recently finding out that he has cancer and then suffering a debilitating infection.
Unfortunately news has come through that he is now near death, so it would seem that things have worsened.
This is a priest who has done so much for the Catholic world, prayers are needed for him in his hour of need.

A priest I saw last night is a close friend (also a Lutheran convert), and he said that in his delirium, he has been most coherent when saying the Divine Office with friends! Even though I don't regularly recite the Divine Office, I think I will try and say a set of the designated prayers today for him.

I have read that Fr. Neuhaus died this morning. Fr. George Rutler administered the Last Rites last night.
Praying for the repose of this dear man's soul.

So very sad.  We've been praying for him and for a holy and peaceful death. He will be so missed, but I know that his prayers will be even more powerful in heaven. We will be praying for the repose of his soul. May God comfort all of us that will miss him so terribly!

I am in shock! I didn't know I only saw him on EWTN not long ago (obviously pre-recorded) - had no idea that he was sick.
We have loved him from afar, he will be so very missed in our lounge room and our hearts.

I heard this announcement on EWTN radio yesterday morning. We could immediately pray together "on air" for his soul. I had heard he had a setback, but was not prepared for his death. We have another great intercessor in heaven!
