Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need prayer regarding my inlaws, mostly my mil. She is very needy and asks my dh for help often. She had bypass surgery in '01 and like 2 yrs ago she had hip surgery, not replacement. She has been on pain med constant since '01. Last year my dh used all his vacation time to deal with her issues. There are 2 other siblings in the area that she could call on but doesn't.

I am really trying to deal with my attitude but I admit my heart is not filled with love or concern right now. I am really resentful and fed up. Please pray for me to have wisdom in this issue. Pray that I can talk with my dh about this.

Praying for you and your dh, Darlene. Extended family issues can be complicated. I pray that you and your dh will feel united in your efforts and find solutions that will bless all involved.

Love,

Darlene, praying for you. Remember to stay close to the Sacraments, Eucharist and Confession are powerful in all things and call upon God for the grace you need and the Holy Spirit for the words you need.

Praying for you, Darlene.

Have you thought about having yourself and DH discuss this with a good priest, or reading some books together that Catholic writers have written on the subject, etc.? Without going into personal details, my DH was happy to learn that even though he really is the only one his parents have, that doesn't give them the right to demand too much and it doesn't give him the "right" to take excessive time away from our family (his first priority) if they're not in need.

Because often a son feels a certain amount of "guilt" (and mothers can push those "guilt buttons" as we know!). So DH needed to hear from other sources (not just me, KWIM?) that he wasn't "sinning" or "neglecting" two reasonably healthy financially comfortable people by not being at their beck and call, so to speak.

Will keep you in my prayers!

Praying for you, Darlene. I agree wholeheartedly with Red's advice; it can be very touchy to try to find the balance between honoring parents and cleaving to your wife.

Peace,
Nancy
