Hi everyone,
I've been worrying about my nursing relationship lately, when it dawned on me, I should be praying and asking for prayer instead of worrying! So here I am.
The baby is 6.5 months now, and she enjoys nursing, doing so night and day. The problem lies with me. I'm giving up so many foods that bother her, that I've lost too much weight now. I'm trying to eat when I can, what I can, and as high fat/protein as I can stomach, but it isn't helping. This is one of the contributing factors to me weaning babies #2 and 3 before one year. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to nurse this one more than a year, even as long as she wants, but if I'm going to start wasting away I know I won't be able to keep up any strength. Already I've started to be weaker and have more blood sugar problems (low) in the last month. When I have a little weight on me these things don't happen. My dh thinks I must have lost a bunch of muscle mass by the looks of me.
I covet your prayers that I'll be able to maintain my health while nursing this baby, or if that is not God's will, then that we find a healthy alternative for my sensitive little girl.
Thanks so much!

Oh Amy, I've been there!!! Prayers and coming your way! I dropped weight and my low blood sugar really kicked in nursing my little one. I was able to keep on until 18 mos, but mostly because I got some great ideas from Kids with Food Allergies, formerly known as POFAK.
I'd be glad to chat in PM if you don't want to share too much. I had to change my way of eating...almost all protein all the time. I made hamburgers, ham, steak, chicken breasts and ate them breakfast lunch and dinner.
Here's a Novena to Our Lady of La Leche and you can virtually visit Our Lady of La Leche Shrine.

Dear Amy,
Will be praying with you that you'll be able to nurse while maintaining your weight and health, or find a healthy alternative. Please Our Lady of Leche intercede for Amy and this selfless request of her heart.
If it helps, I needed to stop nursing my daughter at six months because of my weight loss also. I don't have any advice, only to say do not, not, not beat yourself up over this. St. Therese the Little Flower's mother could not nurse at all and her daughter became a saint

Praying here- hope you can find something. Could you make some kind of protein drink with soy or special milk? Wish I could send a little of my fat your way .
Seriously, you must be suffering. Hang in there. I'll pray for you & your baby.

Congratulations on nursing your baby for 6.5 months, Amy. I'm sorry that you are suffering.
Some thoughts...you may want to consider consulting a lactation consultant who can help to brainstorm a gameplan that will help to meet the needs of you and baby...since baby is 6 months, she may be able to start solids which may decrease her need for nursing...sometimes a baby will outgrow sensitivites to food by six months so you may be able to try to integrate some foods back into your diet...sometimes baby's reactions to food are triggered by how much of the food is eaten by mom so you may be able to tinker with eating some foods, just not in a large amount...it is common for mothers with many little ones to find it hard to find time to eat, whether they are nursing or not, so developing eating habits that work for you can be a great help...breastfeeding doesn't have to be all or nothing, finding ways to decrease nursings to a point of doability for mom may be just the ticket to help you meet your goal of nursing one year!
My prayers are with you!
Love,
