Hello Ladies,
I know this seems minor to so many more serious issues out there. But I could use a small prayer tonight, if you can. I have a MAJOR fear of the dentist, which has kept me from having regular checkups and taking care of problems as they occur (although I hide this from my children and take them regularly).

So now I have a few chipped teeth (in the back) and cavities, I'm sure. I put it off as long as I could, but now I'm in pain all the time and living off of acetaminophin. I have an appt. tomorrow morning, and to say I'm dreading it would be an understatement. I get a racing heartbeat and could burst into tears at just walking into a dentist's office.

My husband found a place that "caters to cowards" and will give me IV sedation when the time comes to do all the repairs, so I'm thankful for that. But I'm still sooooo nervous and in quite a bit of pain right now.

So if you could just offer up one quick little prayer, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you all so much!

Praying for you! The dentist is not my favorite place to go either.

there's some homeopathics that help calm down nerves. I use them myself at the dentist (I always feel like I'm going to fall out of that tipped chair regardless of the reality of the situation) Bach's Rescue Remedy and Hyland's Calms.

Tina

I am sort of scared of the dentist too, but my husband told me a few years ago that nothing really hurts at the dentist anymore, and since he told me that, I have noticed how true this is. I think the pain from your problem teeth is probably worse. Tell yourself that this will be fun and how good it will be to have your teeth healthy and clean and new. That might help to picture all the good things that will occur there, and to just relax yourself in the chair. I always get butterflys too, right down to the ends of my fingers, so I can sympathize. I will be praying for you.

Thank you all for the prayers! It went well today. The doctor and his staff are very understanding of "wimps" like me. And they didn't make me feel like I was being silly, at all, like some of my past dentists have. I have an appt. next Wed. to have (get ready, it's a long list ) 2 teeth pulled, 1 crown redone and 5 cavities filled or old fillings replaced. It's been many years since I've been to a dentist, due to my fears, so all these things just piled up.

He gave me antibiotics because I have 2 teeth that are infected , and causing most of my pain. He will do this all at once, while I'm sedated for 3 hours! As bad as my teeth are, he said he's seen much worse.

Another issue with all of this is the cost. Wow. Our dental insurance coverage is only paying a fraction of the cost. And it's a whopper, too, especially with the long list of "repairs" and IV sedation.

I might be back to ask for a few more prayers next Wednesday. It's a relief to know I won't be awake for this, but I know there will be lots of pain after, and this will be a week before Christmas. What timing I have .

Thanks again!

Wow, what a ton of work! Well better done than keep suffering...and 2 infected teeth is VERY bad, I am glad to hear they have been dealt with.

Praying for the financial end of things too!

I will keep praying for you. I put off the dentist for 13 years for the same reason and am going through lots of repairs right now myself. The cost would normally keep me away from this, but now that my kids know I need dental work I have to follow through as an example (and I'm such a coward about this).

Tina,
I am so glad you kept your appt!! However, I am so sorry, that you have a bit of work to be done.

I will keep praying for you!

Oh! If you are open to some advice I would urge you to stay away from having silver fillings. Most dentists are no longer using them, but too many still do. PM me if you want to know why. Jumping off my soapbox!

What a relief to have the first visit behind you, Tina. I know this must have been a HUGE step! I'll be praying for you this Wednesday - and beyond - I know all about gigantic dental bills zapping the family budget.
