Hi Ladies,
About a month ago, I asked for prayers for a local Mary's Shelter mother who had fallen and was rushed to the hospital. (Mary's Shelter is a house or group of houses that takes in women in difficult situations who have chosen life yet have no place to live)
Anyway, for those who prayed, I thought you would like to read a letter written by this sweet mother. You were a part of the grace and healing for her and her son.
"I don’t think that I will ever be able to find the words to express how eternally grateful for Mary’s Shelter and all they have done for my family.
I found myself pregnant and alone with my third child on the way and nowhere to go in about my sixth month of pregnancy. The domestic violence shelter in which I resided wouldn’t let my children and I stay because of the complex nature of my pregnancy and the liabilities they felt they would face by allowing me to stay, I was informed of this while I was still in the hospital trying to retain the child that I was carrying after I had torn the placenta away from the uterine wall.. I had no idea where to turn or whom to talk to when my doctors at Tepeyac Family Center told me about Mary’s Shelter. When I arrived at Mary’s Shelter I was greeted with open arms instead of the judging eyes that I expected. When I arrived I found that I had a warm, loving, and welcoming home for both my children and myself. I was shocked to see that there were groceries in the refrigerator and that a room had been set up for just my children and myself. The relief that I felt knowing that I had a safe home for my children to sleep at night was a great load off my mind. Though my pregnancy didn’t get any easier the staff at Mary’s Shelter were always there to help when they could. I was admitted to the hospital several times after moving into Mary’s Shelter and I was relieved that not only were the thoughts and prayers of the church there supporting me but so where the staff at the shelter when I needed the support the most. At thirty-five weeks of pregnancy I tripped and fell and tore the placenta completely away from the uterine wall. I was bleeding internally and both my son and myself were in danger. I was rushed into an emergency c-section where I delivered a beautiful son. But those hopes were dashed when they rushed my son out of the room because he couldn’t breathe. I was terrified and I felt like a failure. The staff at Mary’s Shelter called me frequently, visited with me and my baby in the hospital, and brought beautiful clothes for my son in those first few weeks of my baby's life. While I sat in the neo natal intensive care unit watching my son go from struggling to live to thriving and ready to take on the world. After two weeks in the Neonatal intensive care I was finally able to bring home my son. My wait was finally over and I was able to bring Dawson home for the first time and I knew that he would be happy, healthy and safe thanks to Mary’s Shelter. Dawson is now just over four weeks old and doing wonderfully and I have Mary’s Shelter and the parishioners of the church to thank for their support and prayers that have gotten me this far and for giving me the ability to give my children the home and life that I never thought that I would be able to do again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Thanks for your prayers and please continue to pray for our local Mary's Shelter. They are finding that as the weather is turning colder, they are receiving more requests than they can handle.
Blessings,
DeAnn
