Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please pray for all those affected by the wildfires in So. CA. A beautiful Benedictine Monastery and retreat house near Santa Barbara has been left nothing but ashes. Several homeschool families we know are affected by the Sylmar fire. I don't know if they've been evacuated, but from the maps, they are right on the edge of the evac. zone.

It is just so dry and windy here, and so hot. Please keep all those brave people fighting the fires in these awful conditions in your prayers, too.

Thanks.

My husband JUST mentioned this to me..it seems CA has then on a very regular basis in the last few years, it must be devestating for all involved, praying for them all, particularly for the men risking their lives to fight it.

Me, too. I grew up there...I'm sad to hear about the retreat house; it was a very popular place.

I have friends in Anaheim Hills and most of the other places on fire.

The truth is, SoCal's ecosystem is fire-dependent. Some trees need extreme heat for their seeds to release from cones, for example. Santa Ana winds come every single November without fail. What has changed is the number of people living in the foothills, and the resulting lack of possibilities for controlled burns.

I'm not trying to be preachy...I have firefighter friends, too, and I know how hard they work to save every single person and structure. It's just frustrating to hear TV reporters act like they've never felt the winds before and had no idea fires would come.

This time, sadly, it seems as though many low-income people have lost everything. It's very sad. I'm definitely praying.
