This weekend, my 9yob goes off for two nights on Crucible -- the final stage of bootcamp before he's officially a Young Marine. He's very nervous and we are too ... but know that he'll love it once it's past.
Please keep him in your prayers this weekend. I've got him praying to Venerable Fr. Vincent Capodanno, the Grunt Padre, a Marine Chaplain who died in Vietnam.
BTW, if you're looking for a fantastic alternative to scouting (for girls or boys 8-18), you might want to look into Young Marines which was started by retired Marines as a way to help the youth learn leadership skills and give them a positive influence.
UPDATED: He (and me, too) SURVIVED! Thanks for the prayers -- he and his bodies were doing Rosaries all the way out and during .... good Catholic boys, huh?

How cool for your son, Mary! What an experience!
Fr. Capodanno was from my hometown, btw...he's still got family there!

Praying for Thomas. Sounds like he will have a great adventure to tell you about when he returns home!

That sounds really exciting, Mary - and something my son would love! Thanks for the links and know that I'm praying here.

Wonderful, Mary! I had been praying but didn't get the chance to post. Your son and his friends are such an inspiring example. :-)
