My dd12 is having some odd health symptoms. It started with pain in her tailbone about a week or so ago. She had been playing with her little brother at his sandbox, and was sitting on the edge the day prior to the onset of pain, so we attributed it to that. But over the course of the last two days she has developed major leg pain in both legs and muscle weakness, she is tired and is having headaches. We took her to the doctor today and we are in the process of watching her reaction to motrin until we bring her back to the dr. at noon tomorrow.
This, according to the doctor could be Guillain-Barre Syndrome , but they say that is worst case scenario and we have to take it one step at a time. So far she is feeling mildly better with the motrin. This means they will more than likely do bloodwork and an x-ray tomorrow. My dd hates needles and is so stressed about this.
It's hard to be calm and take it "one step at a time" when the doctor leaves the room for 15 minutes, right at the end of the exam, with no explanation. When she came back she looked frazzled and nervous. Very unsettling for us, especially when she mentions the "worst case scenario".
Please pray that this is just something minor. And please pray for her to not have too hard a time with the needles if it comes to that. Thank you all so much.
Update 10/23 : First of all, thanks so much for all the prayers! I am so thankful to all of you! My dd had the x-rays and bloodwork done. The blood draw was a stresser for her, but she did remarkably well and it helped that the lab tech. was friendly, gentle and experienced. My dd also got a kick out of how your dd handles needles, Viv! Thanks for sharing that!
It seems that my dd will be fine and the condition, called Spondylolistesis (try saying that 5 times fast ), was from a fall she must have had as a toddler. The Dr. said that the tailbone pain and the Spondylolistesis are unrelated. The Spondylolistesis is asymptomatic, but was found accidentally during the x-rays (go figure!). It's very common from minor childhood falls and usually goes unnoticed. The tailbone was simply bruised from sitting on the sandbox the wrong way and it just takes a while to heal. The other symptoms she experienced are a mystery. We don't have the results of the bloodwork back, but hopefully there's nothing else and then we can breathe easy.
Thanks for the prayers and if you could just keep her in your prayers a little while longer, I'd appreciate it......just until the bloodwork comes back. Thanks again, to all of you! I keep all of your intentions in my daily prayers!

I will pray, Tina..............I have one with a chronic health problem and I understand the scariness of it all. It is not uncommon for hormones to mess with 12 year old girls......hopefully it is as simple as that!
Keep us updated!

My DD#3 also hates needles, and of course of all three of our girls she has had the most expereince
DD#3 brings sour candy to the her blood draws and asks the person taking the blood to tell her when they are going to prick her and she shoves a handfull of sour candy in her mouth. The shock of the sour overcomes the fear of the prick. I am not kidding--she is not a little kid--14 and did thas last when she was 13 .I am not sure that she really needs this crutch, but she believes she needs it and it keeps her anxiety level down.
BTW, we do offer the anxiety up for a family member who is very medically fragile so our praying time calms instead of revs her anxiety.
Praying for your peace as well.
Viv

Praying for your daughter Tina, it is terrible when things come from out of the blue in such a manner, I will be praying that this is nothing serious.
