My dad just called from his cell phone. There is a huge fire at Camp Pendleton, which their subdivision backs up to. Their entire subdivision has been evacuated to a nearby high school. My brother and his son, Ben, are down there visiting, and have evacuated with them. My Aunt Shirlene and Uncle Roy, Aunt Betty, Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Roger, and cousin Larry and his wife Marilyn all live in the same gated community as my parents (yes, I know, we refer to it as the family compound).

Please pray for the safety of all their homes. They had to just abandon everything and go. Pray also for my dad, who is recovering from spinal surgery.

Thank you for your prayers! The winds blew the right directions (for my parents, anyway) and their house is no longer in danger. There are still quite a few fires burning in CA, and those people threatened by them still need prayers!

Praying - I grew up in SoCal and know first-hand how frightening these fires can be.

Please pray, too, for the people affected by the Marek and Porter Ranch fires and for the Angel Island fire near San Francisco.

This is historically one of the worst months of the year for California wildfires. The winds are hot, dry, strong and treacherous.

If I might ask, please add a special prayer for the children of SoCal who can see the flames and who worry about friends and family. I vividly remember waking up after fire-related nightmares, because I could see the fire lines during the day and after dark from my home, and I knew my friends lived close to those fire lines.

And...the firefighters need our prayers, too. I have a firefighter friend who has described the process of containing wildfires to me, and it is horrible, dangerous work.

Lisa and Mary, I am praying for your family and friends!

From the maps I have determined that our friends do live in the evacuated area of Camp Pendleton though we couldn't get through to them last night by cell phone. Her husband is current in Iraq, so it's just Mary and the kids. They are Catholic homeschoolers, too.
