First, thank you all for all of your prayers. They're working! Chris and I have no doubt that Maggie wouldn't be doing as well as she is without all the prayers being said for her. Please keep them up!!!
Maggie was transferred to the NICU in Winchester (about 20 minutes from our house) on Friday. The docs at UVA's NICU said all she needs to do now is get bigger and stronger.
As of last night, she weighs 3 lbs. 2.4 oz. (up from her birth weight of 1 lb. 10 oz. and her all-time low of 1 lb. 7 oz.), and as of last Sunday she had grown 2 inches, so now she's 15 inches long. She's off the ventilator and on C-pap -- oxygen with a little pressure up her nose. The next step, which they're using 2x a day for an hour each, is vapo-therm (sp?) -- thin tubes in her nose. While she's wearing that she can start learning to nurse, and they want her to do in another week or two.
We were able to bring our other three children home with us this weekend, and we're all getting used to being home together after having been apart for 6+ weeks. It is unsettling to get used to a new NICU, but it's so nice to be with our children again.
Thank you again for all the prayers. I am eternally grateful!

Wendy,
I will be praying for Maggie. It's great to hear she is doing so well. I've spent so many days and weeks in the NICU with Aidan and Paddy that I can really visualize her surroundings! Someone once told me to ask OUr Blessed Mother to wrap my child in her arms when I could not be there and I believe it was her Motherly care that helped my little NICU-ers do so well. Anyway, I will pray the same for your little Maggie, especially to our Lady of La Leche for your successful nursing relationship!

Wendy,
This is such wonderful news. We will continue to pray for Maggie, esp. for her mom and her to establish that nursing relationship very soon. That will help with weight gain, too!
