CRS has always been one of my main "go-to" charities. I didn't know where to post this, but I know that CRS needs our prayers about this moral relativism so...

Leading Catholic Moral Theologian Says Catholic Relief Services Has Betrayed the Church’s Mission

In the April cover story of Catholic World Report, renowned moral theologian, Germain Grisez, criticizes Catholic Relief Services for its distribution of materials to its overseas partners—documents that, while acknowledging Catholic teaching on abstinence before marriage and fidelity in marriage, describe CRS’ policy as “providing full and accurate information” about the use and benefits of condoms to prevent the spread of HIV. Yet, notes Grisez, CRS specifies that its name and logo must not be included on the materials promoting condom use “due to the potential sensitivity of the information contained in these materials among Church partners”.

What exactly is Catholic Relief Services' policy about representing Catholic teaching on condom use? What about CRS’ distribution of 'educational' materials to its partners in Africa and other countries that explicitly encourage condom use to stem the spread of HIV? How does this practice square with CRS' mission as the official charitable agency of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops? And why would CRS forbid putting its name and logo on such 'educational' materials?

Why CRS is distancing itself from its own educational materials is a key question. It uses donations from faithful Catholics to subsidize its "charitable" activities. Grisez carefully examines the CRS documents—which include a "how-to" guide to condoms aimed at African populations—and he calls on the U.S. bishops to investigate what exactly their charitable agency is up to.

We have been very concerned about this here too. We withdrew our support from them a few years ago when we first heard rumblings about this--we tried writing them a letter first to at least allow them to explain themselves, but they never responded.

Praying that they will bring themselves back in line with the Truth.
