Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi Ladies,

I just got this message from Mary Ann (momtomany). Please pray for Sarah and for the family. Sarah just graduated from hs on Sunday.

Beth

Please pray for Sarah. We were coming home from our anniversary trip and got a call that she had fallen from her horse. She is being taken down to Danville for scans. She hurt her back. She can move everything, but she has some kind of compression fraction on her spine. She also feels numb in the pelvic area.

This is no good! I'm praying that it is nothing serious and that there will be no long term ramifications!

I received this update about 4.5 hours ago. Please continue to pray for Sarah.

Thanks!

Beth

Sarah is in surgery right now. She has what is called a burst fracture which means that one of the spinal bones burst and there are at least two pieces pressing ino the spinal cord.
A trauma surgeon and neurosurgeon will be opening her up on the side, removing that bone and cleaning out any fragments, then building a cage of titanium and putting in a piece of her rib bone. Eventually the rib bone should fill in the cage. They expect the surgery to go for at least five hours.
Right now she can move everything, though she was complaining about some tingling in her feet. The area that she is not feeling is bladder and rectal. Hopefully the surgery will relieve the pressure there and that will resolve.

She is out of surgery and awake. They haven't seen her yet, but it sounds like the surgeon is happy with the surgery. Mary Ann is grateful for everyone's prayers.

I spoke to Mary Ann this evening. She is exhausted. She basically hasn't slept since Tue night. Sarah is doing pretty well. She is off the oxygen and complains about the things that squeeze her legs in order to prevent clots...I think this is a good sign! She also has waves of nausea She can move her legs and they are fitting her for a back brace that she will have to wear for a while. I think Mary Ann said that they hope to have her up out of bed in the brace tomorrow. She is still in ICU, though. But it sounds like she will be moved to a rehab facility (hopefully in our area) the first part of next week. I will most likely talk to Mary Ann tomorrow, so I will update then. Thanks again for all the prayers.

Beth
