We found out today that Dave will deploy tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 16.) He will be stationed in Baton Rouge at some type of headquarters and will be acting as Chief Officer of mental health services for his two week deployment. Let us pray for safe traveling for all those deployed and those heading home from deployment. Pray also for the work of all those deployed, their families, and those who will be helped through their efforts.
Although I'm not able to visit with you as much as I would like right now, I hold you all in prayer. Thank you for your prayers.

To clarify, Dave will have a big task, organizing mental health services for the US Public Health Service. I'm not sure if or how other agencies are providing these services. I also don't know if Dave will be cooridnating with other providers. I'll know more when (if!) I talk with him during the next two weeks.
This is a quote on the PHS effort from Katrina War Room in Gear, "Even before the hurricane, Parker says, HHS began moving disaster relief experts into the region. Afterward, Op Center staff began shifting more than 1,000 U.S. Public Health Service officers and tons of supplies into the affected region, making the response to Katrina the largest public health relief operation in U.S. history"

Could you all pray a quick prayer that the airline finds Dave's luggage? If his luggage doesn't show up soon, I'll need to shop and mail replacement articles to him and figure out how to get it to New Orleans  .

Poor St. Anthony has been hearing alot from the McIntyre clan and our friends lately! Good news, Dave's luggage arrived this morning (Tuesday.) He couldn't believe it and neither could anyone else. He thanks you all for the prayers and for the valuable time that has been saved with that problem off of his plate.
He called with his thanks this morning and talked with me for 5 minutes. He described the New Orleans area like a war zone yet feels that the situation is improving. He feels that the work he is doing is going well and that PHS learned a lot from the Tsunami deployment almost a year ago that is now benefitting us here at home. Believe it or not, he and the other PHS officers are being housed on a Carnival Cruise ship that has been donated for the purpose of providing housing for the local emergency workers and their families who have lost their homes. He is with the police and there is another ship for fire fighters and other emergency workers. For the PHS officers, this sure beats sleeping in tents and eating MREs.
Thanks for your prayers. I'll update when I hear from Dave again.

Praying! I have friends from Slidell who've lost everything...I know it's a very hard task to work with so many grieving folks. At least they are lodged in some comfort.
Thanks for giving up your spouse to help the hurricane victims. It's a big sacrifice.

I received a thirty second message on our answering machine this morning from Dave. All relief workers are being evacuated from New Orleans. The two Carnival cruise ships are heading up the Mississippi under Coast Guard control. He sounded positive and grateful to be in competent hands and surrounded by prayer.
