Please pray for my DH and me to discern whether or not to turn to Credit Counseling to help us pay off our mounting financial medical debt from the last 2.5 yrs. I want to tackle it very slowly, paying what we can to show good faith. DH is horribly upset, and not sure what would be best. Some of our huge debts have gone to collection, and threats are coming our way to send them on to attorneys. I am trying to get them to cooperate with us, taking smaller monthly payments.(One of our biggest debts is with a collection agency from way down south-this woman who calls here can say such horrible things-but with the sweetest voice.  ....making it very hard for me to get very far with her.)
Oh! We don't own a a credit card,nor do we qualify for credit.
Also, I have had horribly nasty things said to me when asked what I do, then give the response that I HS our DC. I end up doubting everything, and feeling so guilty for not working in a way that brings in money. And so guitl y that Dh works two jobs for three yrs now. So much guilt in general for being chronically ill for so long.

Oh Christy, hugs to you! I am going to offer up my Rosary today for you. I have prayed for those in financial distress for many years now. I know God will lead you towards Him in your decisions. You are putting your family first with HSing. He will not leave you abandoned.

You have my prayers! We're struggling as well right now, and I know the angst of dealing with not bringing in income while we suffer financially!
Also, you have a legal right to request that collectors STOP calling you on the telephone. You need to make your request in writing, but then the telephone calls will stop. They can then only contact you via writing. Stopping the phone calls (especially when you know you're doing all you can to address the debts) can be a sanity saver.

I am praying for you. We have issues with this as well, so I really can sympathize with you on this. It's a horrible feeling to know that you are doing all you can and that debt collectors just assume you are trying to get out of paying what you owe. I also know that God is listening and giving you the strength to get through this.

I am praying for you, Christy. We have been in that exact place, with the calls and everything, over medical bills. I know how awful it feels. Those guys on the phone cannot hurt you, though, or *do* anything to you, other than hassle you (and as someone else said, you can get them to stop calling. It was the calling that made me feel I was losing my mind).
Well, this isn't an advice forum, but I just wanted you to know that I am praying for you with great feeling!

We're right there too with dh working 2 jobs & the calls. My new reader knows how to read the caller ID that says "toll free" they know not to pick it up... We pay what we can when we can. One creditor asked what I do to contribute since I "won't" work...
Don't mean to make it about "me" but I think it's one of those life issues that makes you feel very alone or like you're not doing something right in your life and that's why you have these issues.
Anyway, I will very gladly pray for you, your dh, and children. It is so hard and can just be a time and energy sucker.

Emily, I appreciate you taking the time to post the daily Mass reading-thankyou.
Theresa, I wasn't able to bring up that link, but I see you 've changed it, so I will try again. Thankyou.
I read Dave Ramsey's books, and he says to do two things to stop creditors from calling constanly. 1) call them before they have a chance to call you. 2) Ask(as a few of you suggested-thanks!) in writing for them to stop calling and only communicate through writing.
While I know we are doing everything we can, and I do believe satan is using this as one more thing to try to break down our family....I can't help but feel that I am not practicing the virute of Justice very well. So, maybe prayers for those nagging feelings/thoughts too.(Like when I buy organic milk-oh the guilt that I could be saving $...sily example but that is how my mind works  )
