My husband had a root canal last week, and it was much more involved and painful than they usually are--e.g. they had to drill his jawbone an hour into the procedure to deliver adequate pain relief. His jaw is now swollen and the site is draining occasionally. He usually has to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs, but has finally begun taking them because the pain was sickening. The dr (endodontist?) does not have him on antibiotics, says they aren't necessary, and we don't like to use antibiotics if they aren't. But I'm very worried about the possibility of an abscess. Please pray for his health, both the tooth and the effects of the drugs.

I am so sorry! Praying for your husband. BTW, I was a dental assistant for 5 years. Try to look into having him take the antibiotics to be safe. Abscess= antibiotics.
