if you remember, I was served the custody papers on Jan. 25, giving me 30 days to respond. Eric and I hired a local attorney, met with him twice, paid him, and given him copies of everything. Our attorney has spoken to the other attorney a few times, and he called us on Tuesday afternoon to say that there are 16 notarized statements that the father should have custody. He said we should come in to his office to meet with him.
He hasn't returned ANY of our phone calls. He hasn't filed ANY papers. Today is DAY 28 of the 30 day deadline and our attorney is nowhere to be found.
We have a 9 am appointment this morning with a different attorney (50 miles away and expensive) but she thinks we can get an extension on the 30 days. If not, she said we'll get something together today and fax it over to the other attorney. This is not how I envisioned this happening - now it all feels so jumbly and last minute.
I have been praying and I know all of you have. I am so thankful for that. I am also so grateful for the wonderful man I married only 8 short months ago. He insisted that we go to this new attorney, regardless of the cost. He told me that he married me and my children, and he loves them as if they are his own.
I haven't slept in two days, my head is throbbing, my stomach hurts, I can't stop crying and my heart is breaking.
I know that I am being tried and tempted this Lent, and I am just trying to hold on.

Many prayers for you and your family, Paula. I am so sorry you are going through this.
If the custody issue is homeschooling related, I wonder if HSLDA may be of help? I have read of them taking on cases where h/s is an issue. Not sure if that helps, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Paula, I am praying and will pray for you until this all gets resolved. I am so sorry for the unneccessary trouble this lawyer has caused you! I will pray for your new attorney's wisdom and skills.

Paula, God is WAY bigger than all of this! I am sorry for your pain and suffering .
For what it is worth, my dh worked as a psychologist in a small town and worked with the courts in a variety of capacities. Custody cases were the hardest and messiest . You need to live with the paradox that nothing is personal (for example: a lawyer who drops out of site, a social worker who snubbs homschooling, a judge who seems disinterested) yet everything is personal. This is incredibly hard, hard work. Please do take good care of yourself, dear. You can't go to battle tired and hungry! Pace yourself, friend...pace yourself. Bring your best self to encounters with the many *them* and bring your rightly vulnerable and exhausted self here and other safe havens. We'll pump you up with prayer and friendship!

Paula,I am so sorry. I second what Maddie said. I also want to gently urge you to take all of this just 1/2 hour at a time. You are in a very overwhelming situation(s) right now, and this is when satan really tries to wedge his way in. Shut him out! Your DC need you to be the strongest you've ever been(at a time when you feel so vulnerable). Offer up every little thing in your day to Mary. Thank God you have a wonderful DH by your side! You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I am putting your name and your intentions on my Schoenstatt Altar, with a candle lit each day until this is resolved.
St. Joseph, pray for Paula and her family.
St. Michael the ArchAngel, protect Paula and her family.
Mother Mary, embrace your dear Paula, take her hand and gently guide her through each day, direct her to make the littlest decisions as clearly as possible.
Sweet Jesus, give Paula the grace to endure the suffering she is experiencing. You love her so much.

Paula, you've been in my thoughts and prayers since I first read your original post.
Is there any way you can make it to Adoration? Or find a quiet spot or go on a quiet walk, alone or with just your dh? If you can, I think it will do wonders to help your with your anxiety and to make you stronger.
Wish I could do more. I'll continue to pray.
