I received this email from a lovely family who used to attend our parish before moving. They would really appreciate your prayers. (The parents are Richard and Daniela)
We are expecting a baby in mid June (I am just off 20 weeks). We have just found out that the baby is very sick with a serious heart problem, they can only see one ventricle (it is missing a vital heart chamber) . We see the heart specialist at the Childrens' Hospital on Monday before we know if it can be repaired at birth (if it survives the pregnancy) or not.
This is a very hard time for us so I thought it best to send this out as we really don't feel like talking on the phone much at the moment. I am sure I can count on you to pray for the baby (they think it is a girl, we will call her "Sarah") and us as we probably need a miracle.
and then we received this email from them:
Firstly thank you for the all the prayers and overwhelming messages of
love and support...we have felt your help already (it has given us some
much needed strength over the last few days) and today we got some better
than expected news: there is still hope for our baby!
We saw a paediatric cardiologist today who confirmed that only the left
two chambers (atrium and venticle) of the baby's heart are working (or
will ever work). For you working in health/medicine it is called a "double
outlet right ventricle" However, this can sometimes be overcome and the
overall prognosis is OK following 2-3 major heart operations, including
one in the first few week of life. Most children (7/10) survive these
operations. Besides this he thinks our baby has a very good chance of
making it to term in the first place.
Please keep praying: the baby may still have other problems and the road
ahead will be tough...but there is hope!
Again we are very grateful for all your prayers and best wishes. We, but
especially the baby, will continue to rely on them! Of course we have lots
of medical appointments to come and will keep you up to date on anything
new.

What a blessing that they were able to catch this with an ultrasound. We will pray for Sarah.
