Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am so sorry to be asking for prayers, but I feel caught in a situation that I do not understand and have very little control over. We made the decision to bring our middle ds home this year even before we left the states. We felt it would be in his best interest and ours.

Unfortunately, his "honeymoon" from his RAD symptoms did not take a long break and he was out and about and on the streets. Now we live in a very small town with truly lovely people, but I have been informed by the police that I must put him in school (he claims this is the reason he keeps running away). I was also told it was illegal to homeschool in the UK.

Social services has been called (this could be a positive thing), but nevertheless, I am extremely upset. My last few days have been completely disrupted. My dh even had to leave work early yesterday because our son was violent and disrespectful.

Unfortunately, this is not the side of my ds that the police see. They view me as "someone from another plant" according to my ds. Based on two conversations with him, we are not being responsible parents because all he wants is to go to school in order to meet other children.

I am trying to understand where they are coming from, but unfortunately, they have do not have the history of my son and his schooling experiences.

I am not certain what to do. I have called the school to speak with the director of admissions, but I really feel that ds is so far behind, they will not accept him. My dh has lost hope and feels that we have done all that we can for our child. Please pray for us in discerning what we should do and how we can best handle this situation.

I am sorry that this is so long and disjointed.

Oh Carole, I'm so sorry you're going through this...I will pray for you, your dh and ds, for wisdom and discernment. The authorities are only seeing one side..."all he want is to go to school..." send him to school, problem solved, right? You know it's not so simple, so I will pray for your strength as well.

Praying for you and your family, Carole. I can only imagine trying to figure out the "system" in a new country and having to deal with your son's behavior at the same time.

As I am sure you know, homeschooling is legal in the UK, under the Education Act of 1996. You're OK doing what you're doing.

I will pray very hard for you!

Dear Carole. I am praying for you.

Can you pm some of the UK people on this list - I do not think that it is illegal to homeschool in the UK - they may have some advice for you on how to deal with the LEA and Social Services.

Carole, my heart breaks for you! A parent suffers so much when they see their children suffering. You are trying your best to help a son who does not -- cannot -- see how much you all do for him and how much you love him. I cannot imagine how hard this must be! You and your family and all those involved in this are in my prayers. May the Holy Spirit guide you all!
