If you see this . . .
I got summoned for jury duty for the end of the month. I live in DC where the jury system is notoriously mean and underpopulated (because so few people actually are residents here). When I got called two years ago they allowed me to get out because I was still nursing a baby with food allergies. I'm sure they have that on record, so I don't think they're going to go for it again. But serving one day would be very, very hard on my 15mo dd and if I got picked for a several day trial it would be really challenging. We've never been separated and she is very attached to me.
So, pray that I get a sympathetic court clerk when I call!
(btw, I'm not opposed to doing my civic duty. I'd happily save up all my jury duty for when my kids are grown up. Why can't someone revise the system to allow for that?)

Thank you! I got out of serving for another two years. Of course I hope to have the same problem then . . .

Good deal, Susan. I completely understand your situation and know how hostile it can be for moms of littles. So sad.
Love,

Susan.....I prayed for you, too......just posting now.
The same thing happened to me when my Sarah was 2 months old....I said I was her main caregiver and she was recovering from heart surgery....and they summoned me 4 mons later....so, that time I got them to take me off for two yrs.
Why is that they always call when we are nursing our babies? I have not been summoned EXCEPT when I have a nursling.
We are both lucky.....because nursing a babe is not criteria to let you off the hook....as seen by court cases.

So true! I've been called twice, both times I had a nursing baby.

Susan -
Glad you were able to stay home with your little ones. One time I completely forgot that I had been summoned (Montgomery County, MD). Around 10 in the morning I got a phone call, informing me that the sheriff would be arriving within half an hour to transport me to the courthouse! I was freaked out! Anyway, fortunately I had the presence of mind to choke out, "But I have a nursing baby." No sheriff showed up.
Peace,
Nancy

Bumping this up. I just received summons to jury duty today. For Sept. 8, no less! The day we are planning to start school. Anyone managed to postpone jury duty for homeschooling reasons? I could have served any day this summer--why does it have to be during the school year after my husband has just finished his vacation? At least I do not have such a young one as the original poster--my youngest is 2 and weaned.

I'm praying for you, LeeAnn. Perhaps you would get more responses if you post this to Mother Nurture. I haven't heard of anyone being excused for homeschooling reasons but I'm interested if anyone else has. Will you let us know what happens?
Love,

I was summoned a few years ago and was released because I was the primary caregiver to my children. That was *several* years ago, though. I was sent an info letter a few weeks ago alerting me to the possibility that I might be summoned again soon... ugh. I have a 5 month old nursling and 3 more at home. Praying for both of us, LeeAnn.
