My dh's colleague's baby son, Nicholas, is having surgery Monday to reshape his skull, because his bones aren't growing properly. Some are fused the wrong way. He will need six complete transfusions during the 7-hour surgery. To make things more difficult, both of Nicholas' parents have lived in Europe long enough to make them ineligible to donate blood for his transfusions (because of BSE). Nicholas will thus not have transfusions with family members' blood, but with strangers'. This was an unexpected development today...and my dh and I can't volunteer to help for the same reason.

Please pray for this little guy; he is going to have a long, hard day...and so will his concerned parents.
