My 19yo neice, who has gone through the Catholic schools from pre-K-12 in Salt Lake City, Utah has just announced to her family that she will become a Mormon the Saturday following Thanksgiving.
I'm stunned by this, as is the rest of my family. I'm sick over how much my brother sacrificed to ensure his children would grow up Catholic in a very non-Catholic area only to have this thrown in his face while she's still living under his roof.
From what my mother tells me, my neice has been dating a Mormon boy for a while. He is now away on "mission" and she has decided to go through whatever it is they do to bring people into the "Church of Latter Day Saints." Right now, the family is just hoping she'll "wake up" and realize how silly this all is.
Please keep Kaitlyn in your prayers, that she will have a change of heart, and realize the beauty of the faith she has known all her life that she is choosing to throw away.

Edited to add: my mother will be visiting my brother and his family for Thanksgiving, but she is not attending the ceremony in protest. Pray for her peace of mind as well.

Oh I am so sad. I will pray for this conversion of this loved one to come home to the Catholic church.
