Okay, I've always known that my in-laws disagreed with homeschooling, but I think their true feelings are becoming more apparent now that we truly are. Long story short, my father-in-law said that because my 3 year old didn't want to do a soccer class it was because of HS. Could it be that my ds is just a little young, didn't like the class, or just not ready? In his own way, I felt like he was saying that my son is a social misfit because of HS. He's 3!!!!!!
{I just don't understand how putting your child in an institutional setting makes them a better, more secure, more "well-adjusted" person? Why do people believe this?}
Please pray that I might be charitable to him, especially when we see them this weekend at my niece's birthday (for I feel my blood is boiling and that I might say the wrong thing).

Praying for you too!! I understand how you feel!! Why is it that anything perceived as "different" in our children is because of homeschooling and anything that is "right or normal" with them is DESPITE homeschooling???
I will be praying for you this weekend!!!

I will pray for you. My fil recently said he was vehemently opposed to us homeschooling. He admitted it was a better education, he just doesn't think we should do anything different from the rest of society.

You know, we've weathered all the yucky attitudes and comments from family, too.
Just keep going and doing what you believe God has called you to do.
And totally send your Guardian angel before you!
One time, a certain family member actually came out and said, "I want to fight with you!"
I responded with a smile and said, "Well, isn't it a great thing to be able to disagree!?"
Somehow, that ended that confrontation!
Remembering you in prayers for the birthday party!

Praying for you! Remember, if this is what God has called you to, then continue. In the end, your family will see the results.

Praying that you can remain calm and loving and that you are well protected as you stay God's course and act as a fine example to others. It helps me to remember that I have been blessed with the heart and understanding to hs. God has truly graced me and my family with a gift of insight. Those who haven't been blessed with this insight, most often will need time and positive experience to "see." This is why I am called to a higher level of responsibilty when it comes to being a courteous example...and this can feel like a heavy (and unfair) load sometimes. With experience and time, on both sides, things get easier. Oh, and from one hot tempered gal to another, you are right to desire to keep your cool in front of nay-sayers. Vent away with your supporters...we understand .
Love,

He's 3!!
Now, I know we are not real team sport players here, a bit of soccer 10 years ago, 2 years of softball with DD#3, 4-H horseback riding and high school track and except for sailing, family biking and kayaking, we aren't very athletic, so maybe I do not get the 3yo in a soccer class?!
Maybe we are just late bloomers?
At 3 aren't you "just" parenting? and all the wonderful learning that that entails? How can it have to do with homeschooling?
Good luck and prayers this weekend.

St. Benedict and St. Scholastica, pray for us! So many of us have been where you are right now. It will pass, but boy it's a challenge.
