Eleanor,
I know how you feel about not being able to make the funeral - we weren't able to make it either....Father Warren and Father Sweeney concelebrated our wedding and I just loved both of them....
I know how you feel about being surprised if he needs prayers...I thought the same thing.
In fact, I've been praying to him....
Father Warren, pray for us.
Father Sweeney, pray for us.

From the San Jose Mercury News.
Rev. Edward V. Warren, S.J
In Los Gatos, CA on Friday, June 22, 2007, at age 89, of complications from pneumonia. He was a Jesuit for 66 years. He was born in Arcata, California and attended Humbolt State University and the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated with a BA in English in 1939. He entered the Jesuits at Los Gatos in 1940 and during his course of preparation for ordination he taught English for two years at Santa Clara University. He was ordained a priest in San Francisco in June of 1952. He then obtained an MA in English at the University of California, Berkeley.
In 1954 Ed was assigned to Santa Clara University where he would serve for fifty years in a variety of capacities. He taught English, was Director of the Extension Division and Summer Session and was Assistant Dean of the Division of Counseling, Psychology and Education. For many years he read the names of the graduates at commencement exercises, paying meticulous care to the proper pronunciation of the names of the increasingly multicultural array of graduates. In his retirement he served the Jesuit Community at Santa Clara as guest master, house historian and pastoral minister. Pastorally, he helped out at Our Lady of Peace, Queen of Apostles and St. Clare parishes. He also said Mass for both the Carmelites in Santa Clara and the Poor Clares in Los Altos Hills.
Fr. Warren delighted in his vocation as a Jesuit priest. He made himself available, as priest, for every possible need that came up. He was a very prayerful, gentle man with great compassion for all whom he met. He had a very lively mind and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to tell jokes; if they were corny, all the better. He was a man of the highest integrity. His priesthood, his personality and his consciousness were all of a piece. He was unambiguously a man of God. Declining health brought him to Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos, in 2004. Though fragile himself, he would often be seen pushing another's wheelchair. He spent hours each day in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in silent prayer or praying the rosary. Those who knew him affirm that the gap between Fr. Warren's life here on earth and his life with God in eternity was very small indeed. He will be greatly missed by those he served, his many friends, his loving family and his Jesuit brothers.
He is survived by: his sister-in-law, Mrs. William Warren, his stepsister, Sr. Stephanie Rose Stemberger, SNJM, his nieces, Judith Flinn, Mary Elizabeth Beard and Laetitia Offutt, and his nephews, Robert Warren and Dr. Nik Warren, PhD.
Vigil: 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center, Los Gatos, Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Santa Clara Mission Church, Santa Clara. Committal will follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, Santa Clara. Arrangements by Darling & Fischer Chapel of the Hills in Los Gatos, CA.
