Our Australian Shepherd has a serious case of salmonella. The vet isn't sure he will make it through the weekend. This has been a difficult animal week. We lost one of our beloved cats who was hit by a car early this week, and another in kittybirth also this week.
He has been given IV tetracycline, and now I am giving him some mixed with water every 10 minutes until 11:30 tonight. Then we start again with the meds at 5:30 tomorrow morning.
I know he is just a dog, but...

I hope your dog is well soon. I'm sorry for the loss of your pet cats. You may find comfort and in Our Mother's Garden of Sorrow: Death of a pet. Praying.

he may "only be a dog" but he is your doggy, and a part of your family! so of course this is painful.

I understand how you feel. Over the last 4 years we've lost 5 cats to illness or old age (never lost any to accidents). We pour so much love into our pets, it hurts so much to see them suffering. But the lessons these creatures have taught us have helped us grow in our patience, faith and spirituality. I even wrote about our experiences with one of our cats, who was particularly heaven sent.
Keep the faith, I will pray for your dog's health. Please keep us updated.

He died this morning. I haven't told the kids yet. My middle son was especially close to him. This is going to be a hard day.

I'm so sorry. I know exactly what you are going through. 
When my daughter lost her favorite cat to sudden illness, I spent the day helping her gather pictures and she put together a beautiful scrapbook of memories. It helped the healing process immensely.
My prayers are with you. And some much needed virtual hugs.

I'm so sorry. This has been a tough week for your family and to have it come to this kind of end is very hard. It's so hard to lose a pet; they are so much a part of the family.
