Please pray for Christella and Helande, baby girls from Haiti who are here in the US for surgery. Pray also for the generous doctors and hospital in Texas who are doing the surgery for free. I have posted pictures and information about the girls on my blog.

Helande is about 3 mos. old and was born with a condition called occipital encephalocele, which is a weakness in her skull that has opened up. This means her brain is missing a protective piece of skull covering it needs to maintain its integrity. She is also hydrocephalic, which means she has excess fluid on her brain. The combination of these two issues has caused a herniation on the back of her head. There is literally a "ball" of fluid and brain mass coming off the back of her head. Until she has surgery, this "ball" will continue to grow. As it gets bigger, it may come open, which would allow infection to enter into her head. This would cause meningitis and then death. She is scheduled for surgery TOMORROW!

Christella is six months old and was born with a birth defect called spina bifida that affects the spinal cord, leaving it exposed at birth. Most children born with spina bifida have it corrected within 48 hours after birth. This surgery is not possible in Haiti. Christella has an enormous, fragile sack of spinal fluid on her back. The sack has been open, leaking and infected. She had her surgery TODAY!

These girls have a long road ahead of them and will need lots of prayers!
