Our ds has rapidly started exhibiting many OCD rituals. He is 7 yo. So very much about his behaviour since he was a baby really makes so much sense for us now. He has always been a child who was difficult to parent and had his parents frequently scratching their heads. In truth, he has made us better parents in lots of ways, and now he really needs our help.
We are going to see a psychologist in the next week. We feel certain of the diagnosis. The behaviours are snowballing. He can't sleep at night because of all the intrusive thoughts, his hands are bleeding from all of the washing, and there is a great deal of Explosive anger into the bargain. He is suffering and it breaks my heart to stand by and not be able to make the thoughts go away.
Please pray for the doctors involved, for my son and for our family.
Does anyone have any experience with OCD and its treatment? If so, and you would like to share, please respond here and I will PM you.

If someone has experience with OCD and would like to correspond with the anonymous post-er, but wishes to remain anonymous herself, please PM me and I'll connect the two of you. Make sense?

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice, but you do have my prayers. It sounds terribly difficult. Our eldest daughter has a good friend with OCD, which is treated with medication. She's 15, almost 16 and a lovely young woman.

I am praying mightily that you receive helpful care and guidance. Just by reading your request, I can see that you are on the right track...you are identifying behaviors (instead of ignoring them)...you are getting help (instead of trying to tackle this all by yourselves)...you want to help your child where he is at (how fortunate he is!)...you are hopeful (and this is right because there is much to be hopeful about with better professional awareness and treatment for this condition than there has ever been in past)...you are asking for prayers (fuel for your journey .)
I have a dear friend whose family has been working with their son who has OCD. It has been a challenging road, but one full of blessings for this child and the whole family. You all will be blessed, too!
Love,

We found help with my dd's OCD. She went through a myriad of symptoms over the years. I truly hear your heartache. I remember the crying through hour long showers, the bleeding hands, intrusive thoughts and much more. We took an alternative route and would be glad to receive a pm if you are interested in the treatments my dd underwent. I will pray for your son, you and your family. He is so young My dd was 9 when things began to snowball downhill.

I don't have any advice per se, but I do know that treatment of OCD will likely involve both medication as well as behavioral therapy. I will talk to my OCD "liaison" and see if she knows of any immediate or long term things that can be done to ease the situation.
AFAIK, OCD is a genetic issue which involve the neurons or neurotransmitters. It just so happens that I am taking a Neuroscience class this quarter so I might be able to shed a bit of insight (in laymen's terms) in the near future. Putting it briefly, it is a chemical imbalance, which is why medication is generally prescribed.
Anyhow, I wish you the best of luck and I will keep you in my prayers. The outlook does not necessarily have to be grim.

Ok, after talking to my liaison, she said that she would probably check with your pediatrician before you went to the psychologist. She would be wary of putting the child on medication because of the side effects which could be long-lasting or cause other problems in the future.
She really just recommends finding a few good books about childhood OCD (there are a bunch) and finding what might work well for your child. But again, she recommends talking to the pediatrician first, and that behavioral therapy is probably a must.
There is also a chance that your child may grow out of it. Childhood OCD and adult OCD seem to be a bit different, akin to type I and II diabetes.
hope this helps.
