Aidan just turned 6 last week and yesterday I noticed that his lymph glands in his neck, and his adenoids, are swollen. He tested positive for the Epstein-Barr Virus earlier this year and is on an antiviral drug.
What I'm worried about is PTLD (Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disease) which occurs in a significant percentage of transplant cases who acquire EBV -- it's a sort of cancer which has a fairly high mortality rate. It often presents in the adenoids.
I'd feel so much better knowing that prayers were being said for him!

Willa, our prayers are with Aidan and all of you. I am so sorry you have this anxiety.
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins our mother. To thee do we come, before you we kneel, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer them. Amen.

I was up last night and prayed for him without knowing--we've got a history, Aidan and me, and somehow I always know .

Well, I prayed for Aidan last night, too!
Of course, I KNOW how "I" knew..........Willa told me on the phone!
Willa, I am glad you came here for prayers earlier than you usually do!
So, will you follow up on this? to rule out the need for worry?
your humble and obedient servant, always

Aidan went to the GP today (yesterday we were in the car all day taking dd to meet Chari's dd in San Francisco) and the doctor took a strep culture. The immediate one was negative, the longterm one won't come back until Thursday, then we can go from there. She (doctor) said his throat was red and she thinks he may have something viral going on... there was no dissemination of the lymphatic swelling into his arms and groin so that is a good sign.
After we get the results from the strep culture, particularly if it is negative, I intend to call the hepatology specialists (liver) to find out if they think anything else should be done.
I always hesitate to request for prayers "too early" because then if it turns out to be nothing too big, I feel like the boy that cried wolf On the other hand, I feel so much better knowing that prayers are being said -- so much the better if Aidan doesn't have anything beyond a strep bug -- maybe that was because of the PRAYERS -- that's DH's very sensible point of view.
Lissa, we have been praying and offering for little Steven and I told Clare what was going on so she and Anne could pray on her flight over east... so glad Steven didn't need surgery and that you found out so serendipitously about the pneumonia. Thanks so much for the prayers! God bless our little troopers!!

Oh no, Willa, you should always ask for the prayers as soon as possible. I do believe that the prayers are changing the outcomes of these seemingly dire situations. Looking over the most recent prayer requests, I am amazed and grateful for so many blessings for all of us.
I am so happy about Aidan's hopeful news. I've been checking this thread obsessively for days, and it is such a relief to hear from you.

And don't forget Willa, that peace is also a result of prayers...so it's good to ask early, even if it turns out to be nothing. You need the graces to get through the worry stage -- sometimes the fear of what COULD lie ahead is the hardest cross to bear!!!
