Now that I've posted on the prayer forum, I feel like a fake. Alas, my husband has determined that homeschooling is not an option for our family - "not feasible right now" were his words. (though he is NOT a proponent of public schools). Though we haven't discussed it at length (I'll break down into inconsolable tears) I know his reasoning: He believes that I frequently take on too much (I can and often do, but right now the only thing I have going right now is my family - immediate, here. in the house) and he is very sensitive to what I do and how busy I stay throughout the day with the 3 kids.
That said. Please please pray for me that either 1) God changes my heart regarding homeschooling - and that I am open to that change, or 2) that my husband changes his mind.
I had to pick up kindergartend registration forms today and I'm feeling so horrible.

Cici, I'm praying for you and this situation and I'm so glad you asked. This is hard. Please know that no matter what you are a welcome part of the forums as there are so many folks making a variety of educational choices for their families. Please don't feel like a fake.

I will pray for you and your husband. I can relate. My husband said absolutely not, until we actually took a trip to a local "teacher's store" and saw all the materials we could use for the kids. We bought an abacus, and he and my daughter played with it. Very simple, but it got him a little more comfortable with the idea.
I'll keep you both in my prayers.

I will pray for you, Christine.
My husband thought I was nuts when I first brought up homeschooling. He came around though, and now he's the one that insists on it when I think I've had enough of it!
Please continue to be part of this lovely group...you're NOT a fake!

Christine,
You are a wonderful mom and a committed spouse...NOT a fake. You will be able to use some of your homeschooling ideas after kindergarten is over each day, don't worry! (For ex., you and your daughter can choose living books to read together...you can go for walks and learn about birds and trees, your son will love looking for birds!)
Having been in your husband's shoes so long ago ("What? Me, homeschool?") I can attest to the fact that change can happen! We're now in year 5 of our homeschool adventure and I'm sure this is a path I could not have chosen without divine intervention.
You're in my prayers.

Praying, dear Cici!
Your dh is just doing what he thinks is best and trying to protect you!
We'll keep you all in our prayers.

Oh Christine. Praying for both of you.
Would it help him to communicate with a homeschooling dad or two? We have a friend whose wife convinced him that they needed to homeschool, but it really helped that he talked to my dh. Maybe you've got someone nearby whose dh is willing to reassure him, or maybe even one or two of the dhs here with kids close to yours in age?

I will be praying, Christine. My husband reacted similarly a few years ago. I prayed a whole lot to Our Lady and asked my husband if he would let me try it for two years. He agreed with the intention to reevaluate it then.
The one thing that really helped was my explaining that kindergarten and first grade really take less than an hour a day in formal lessons (if you even do any) so the burden on mom is minimal.

I am standing in your shoes, Christine. Walking in your moccasins. Only it's my daughter rather than my husband.
You have my heartfelt prayers. I have been praying to the Blessed Mother (as Rebecca mentioned) and will include your intention in my prayers.
You are not alone.
