This morning at Mass I wore a new skirt I had sewn yesterday--pink floral, very spring-like. A woman complimented me on it and we discussed the pattern I had used, and in the conversation, she said she was waitng for Easter to wear her spring clothes.
I am wondering, do you think it is inappropriate to wear something very spring-y before Easter? I had never considered it, but was just excited with this warm weather here. If we were still in Iowa, it would be a long time before I would wear a skirt like this one.
What do you think? I have been mulling this over all day.

As far as I am concerned, spring has sprung here in NC. It was like 80 degrees today! Wear what you want.

Mix.. I would wear spring-y clothing before Easter BUT I'd save my Easter outfit to wear the first time (that season) for Easter

We are leaving Wednesday for Savannah to visit my parents. I am packing spring clothes. Mom says that that is what everyone is wearing there since the weather is so wonderful. I'd say if it is temperature appropriate wear the lighter colors. It's still chilly here in NY and I am longing for some light fabrics and colors.

I'm leaving for NC and Savannah sometime in the next month(to see pg dd and see ds off to Iraq), and I cannot WAIT to be in spring clothes. Here in NY it is still gloomy and cold.

I was just thinking this morning as I was getting dressed in the same old, same old, that I was ready for Spring and some new/different additions to my wardrobe.
If it's warm enough, I say "go for it!"

The etiquette rule is no white shoes or bottoms (skirts or pants) until after Memorial Day and stop after Labor Day. There might be something about linen, too, but I'm not too sure. Anyway, florals are totally fine...and I'm thinking of pulling mine out to get me more in the spring step of things, too.

Only had summer June, July and August. When I've lived places where it's HOT summer (90*+) outside of those 3 months people wear a lot of white, a lot more often.

I would disagree, merely because I come from TX and LA (and now VA) that have hot days for many, many, months. But there are many proper Southern ladies that follow these rules. There are light colored clothing that can be worn without being white.
But it's an old etiquette rule, and since so much of that is thrown out the window these days (and merely suggestions), that's probably the reason you see white all year 'round.

I grew up in California and am blissfully free of hangups about what time of year to wear certain colors. I ignore the "rules" and get nothing but compliments. If you look at the fashion magazines, they aren't following the rules anymore, either. White was a hot color for winter.
If it's warm enough to dress in your spring skirts, then wear them! Enjoy!

I agree about ditching the white rule BUT I do tend to save my spring clothes for after Easter. I do it sort of as a Lenten penance and wear the "new" things as a part of the celebration of Easter. OK maybe that's weird but that's me.

Michelle,
I really think that was the woman's meaning--as a sort of penance. That is why I've been mulling it around in my head. It would be a sacrifice on my part to wait, as I am SO tired of these same old skirts I've been wearing since Dec. when I made the switch from jeans.
Which begs another question: how many skirts are "enough" when you only wear skirts? Seems like with jeans, I needed less since they went with everything, but with skirts, I need a larger number. What do you all think?

I mix the skirts too I have a couple basic denim skirts to "go with everything" like jeans do.. then add a few skirts appropriate for the season.. corduroy and flannel etc in winter and some lightweight things for summer.

Well, I wasn't going to say anything since I'm in the minority but I'll be brave after reading Michele's comment. I do the same thing for the same reason. I'm still in the winter/Lenten look - dark brown, purple, black, etc. And like Liz said, I sure am tired of these winter skirts. But I wait until after Easter to break out the lighter, cheerful spring colors.
