I've noticed some of you commenting on my blog and it dawned on me some of you may be confused.
I am Maria who is also known as Marisa. You see my legal/baptismal name is Maria Isabel, but my mother, for reasons I will never comprehend, wanted everyone to call me Marisa. And so I was all through my childhood, friends, family everyone called me Marisa. Until I joined my first homeschool group some 7 years ago. For legal purposes, I registered as Maria and so with all the lovely new families and moms I met, I was Maria, and Maria I have remained in homeschooling circles and in my parish. My husband and family think it is hysterical and joke and wonder "Who is Maria Ashwell?"
Ans so I am Maria who was Marisa who was really born Maria after all.

And all this time I thought you were Miss Clavel from the Madeline books.

Oh Anne!
Actually the msclavel comes from my father. My oldest daughter is named Madeline and it was just too funny for him when we started this homeschooling life not to call me that. And at the rate we're going, we may just have those 12 little girls in 2 straight lines. Heck, we're halfway there.

That is funny. It reminds me of the position I found myself in back when I was working. My "real" name is Mary. My mother is also Mary so I have always been called Molly.
Whenever I worked as a nurse, it was easier to go by Mary because that was the name on my RN license and when I had to sign off on anything, I needed to use my legal name. So, I was working at a doctor's office and even though I had intended to have them call me Molly, I was introduced as Mary and just left it that way.
One of the doctors met a friend of mine one day and they shared a moment of confusion. She, of course, knew me as Molly and insisted that he had a nurse named Molly who worked there. They finally figured out that Mary and Molly were the same person. He got a kick out of coming in the office and calling me Molly. I must have given him a look! Like he had found out my big secret!!
Nice to meet you, Marisa! Beautiful name!

I might be one of the only ones who was confused. I remember the htread where I figured out that we grew up in the same neighborhood. But I always knew you as Marisa (which sounded so lyrical with Villa). And you'd been commenting on my blog as Maria Ashwell for some time before that. It took me several weeks to figure out that Marisa from the pool was Maria Ashwell...
But I'm slow...

I'm in the same boat as you. My "real" name is Mary, too, but I've been called Molly since the day I was born. And, oh!, the confusion it has caused over the years. I decided early in my life that all of my children would be called what we named them! Although, one might think otherwise after coming to my house and hearing us call for Bean, Pop, T-Bone, Boo, Patchy and V !

We call our younger son (Thomas) T-Bone also! And a bunch of other nicknames. Our first son was going to be decidedly just David, but was Davey within a few days of birth. I was probably more open to Tommy from the start, but we never started calling his younger brother that.

Last week when I had surgery and I was coming to after the meds started to wear off, they were calling me Margaret and I did'nt respond because I never get called that. So they would say "can you hear me Margaret", and I just laid there with me eyes shut, thinking" I wish whoever they are talking to would answer them so I could get some sleep

Funny how names can change over time. I had an unpronounceable maiden name so preferred Liz as a teenager. Then, when I got married, Liz didn't sound right with my new name, so I went back to Elizabeth. So all my family and old friends call me Liz, and newer friends call me Elizabeth. And of course here my username is Doris (why didn't I spend more time choosing a username?!) because 'Elizabeth' was already taken
(It's my grandmother's name. The other option would have been Queenie )

Molly, you had me cracking up!
My grandmother is Mexican and her name is Carmen, but in her senior circles she always calls herself Polly. We always just figured it was another "crazy Grandma" thing. Then after my Maria was born, we found out that Grandma's real name is Maria del Carmen and that Polly is a nickname for Mary. She used it because she found that her generation tends to be prejudiced agains foreigners. Guess Grandma isn't so crazy after all.
