Has anyone ever used the pregnancy tests that you can buy from the dollar store? Our Dollar Tree store carries them and I was wondering if they are dependable? If they are, I can't wait to stock up!

For one dollar, ya can't beat that!! I took 5 (bought 'em with a $5 bill, DG was closing, so they were $.75 each!) After taking 2 store brand that were +, one fancy digital that screamed "pregnant". Over the course of two weeks I took the 5 DG brand, and they were all +++++++. My friend that is hoping to become pregnant has taken many, all - so far, and she is not pregnant. We talked about these at our Mothers Tea, and all of the women had used them, and liked them!

Thanks for the information, Lisa. I have all the symptoms of pregnancy but the Dollar Store tests keep saying -. My husband bought the tests last week and I was thinking that maybe the tests were wrong but maybe I'm not really pregnant or it's just too early. It's so hard to be patient!

I don't know anything about the Dollar Store tests, but you can buy test strips for $1.00 from BirthJunkie.com
You can buy them in bulk (5,10,15 20 strips) and shipping is just $1.00 also. I have taken LOTS of them (always ever hopeful for another positive result) and they have given me the correct results each time , both positive and negative .

In my experience, Dollar Tree tests are accurate but not as sensitive as something like First Response that says you can test up to four days early. In other words, if you are trying to test early you might get a negative with a dollar store test even when you are pregnant. By the time your period is late they should be able to give you an accurate result, though.

I use the Dollar Store pregnancy tests...there is a great site called PeeonaStick that reviews ovulation predictor and pregnancy tests. Dollar Tree tests were rated pretty consistent. The times I've been pregnant I took the tests a few days early and had definite positives. I've never had a negative and then later a positive.
Jacinta has a good point about testing by the time your period would come or be late most tests are consistent. So if in doubt wait, but that's so hard sometimes!
I'm testing this month the new ones that are supposed to be test 5 days early and compare the Dollar Tree ones.

I tested at 12dpo with this last pregnancy on my last $store test. Got a faint positive (at night). Went out the next morning and bought a two pack from CVS (closer then the $store) and tested more positive,lol...then two days later took the last in the two pack and got a really good strong YEP YOU'RE PREGNANT, LADY! type result.
Of course, I now know I am carrying twins, so it could just be that the hormones were particularly strong.
But I'm also a POAS/charting FREAK so I had a pretty good suspicion I was pregnant.
LOL

Ok...so part of the problem is that I haven't had a period since 2003, due to nursing babies. I ovulate before my first period after childbirth and then get pregnant right away. I really have no idea when my period would be due. I have been having some "fertile" signs and they usually determine my due date by u/s. I'll wait another week and try a 5 day early test. The website, peeonastick, was so informative. I was suprised how well the Dollar Tree tests were rated. I think they are pretty good for $1. Thanks for all your input!

You can get some very cheap pregnancy tests on ebay (at least the uk site), including 'ultra early' tests which can detect the lowest levels of HCG.

Oh, they also sell OPKs which I've heard are pretty accurate.
