I tried to post this on the teatime posting but I think it got lost among all the other postings (only one person responded) so I will try again as a new topic....

Where do you all get your teapots for your teatime? Do you have a favorite? Can you use the fancy ones on a stove top?

Right now I have one of those big metal ones with the copper bottom and some ugly old coffee mugs -- yuk. O personally would really like to add a little more beauty to our teatime when we start it back up.

Are we talking teapots or kettles? For brewing/serving or heating the water?

Don't mean to be picky, just interested in the direction of this thread.

Peace,
Nancy

I have a Simplex stainless tea kettle with the heat retaining base coil designed for gas stoves. It heats up the water quickly and very hot. It also has a whistle.

I serve the tea in a tea pot from my Hallmark shop. It has Marjolein Bastin print on the pot and two mugs. I received it for Mother's Day a few years ago.

My tea kettle is just stainless steel and I think it takes way too long for the water to boil. I'm hoping to explore electric kettles, but don't know what to look for. Any input is greatly appreciated.

My favorite teapot is one of those classically round types, like the "Brown Betty". It is, however, cobalt blue and has a strainer basket made of the same material as the rest of the pot. I enjoy using loose tea, so this works very well for me. The ceramic is fairly thick, so it holds the heat for a long time, but it is heavy to lift. I guess I can't have everything!

Peace,
Nancy

Oh my... well I hadn't really thought about there being a difference. Shows how much I know .. Hmmm...

Well, we like our tea in bags, not seperate. So if a teapot does not actually heat the water then I guess I should be asking what *fancy or elegant* kettle do you use? Is there such a thing?

Well, I heat the water in my FarberWare stainless kettle on the stove. That water is then poured into my warmed Fiesta Ware tea pot.

I bought my kettle on clearance at an outlet mall...I think it was Oneida. It's white enameled with a calla lily on it.

I have a couple of different tea pots for serving. I use tea bags, so it's not a big deal for me...lol. I've got one that matches my good china, and another that is more "odds and ends"--I love the old hand painted china one can get piecemeal on ebay. Sometimes very cheaply, for very pretty things. I've gotten a couple of very nice serving pieces as well, and also got a good batch of dessert plates...mostly odds and ends, but pretty and feminine...kind of the "all of the old lady relatives leftover pieces from destroyed sets" sort of look. LOL.

Kind of shabby chic, but I really like it.

Rachel (who likes Celestial Seasonings fruit and berry blend teas these days, since caffeine is a no-no)

I have an English chintz teapot I got off of eBay. And a Japanese tea set for green tea which I got for $4 at an antique store. I'd collect teapots except I don't have the space to store/display them.

A Lomonosov Cobalt Blue net teapot has been on my list for ages, as has a Simplex kettle, after our el cheapo rusted out years ago. One of these days I'll be able to justify the expense

We have this, with the matching warmer and we love both:

http://www.culinaryteas.com/Tea_Ware/2708-BUR.html

Inexpensive, but these have held up well with frequent use...I deliberately chose these because if either gets broken we won't be out a lot and they can easily be replaced! They go quite nicely with our assortment of red and white restaurant china! I usually add an extra teabag or two and refill the pot and leave it on the warmer for second helpings!

We also have an electric pot and tea maker called Mrs. Tea (they no longer make them)...I found it for $2 at Goodwill...We use it daily and love it! If you ever run across one, it's great for teatimes. I can actually brew the tea on the Mrs. Tea maker, right into our culinaryteas pot, and transfer it to the warmer.

Two new favorite bagged teas..."Twinings Four Red Fruits Black Tea", with strawberries, cherries, raspberries and red currants and "Celestial Seasonings Teahouse Chai Chocolate Caramel Enchantment". Teatimes are so delightful!

Wow,

We were on the internet all afternoon on Friday and never ran across this website. Thanks for sharing.

I have to admit after seeing the prices for many of the tea kettles and/or teapots online we were getting quite discouraged, but this looks a lot more doable and is a lot nicer than our old stainless steel kettle.

I wonder what other stores might have teapot sets or ceramic tea kettles at a discount price?

I have an electric tea kettle by Melitta and it's wonderful!!

Then for everyday tea parties, I pour the hot water into our 8 cup Brown Betty tea pot. I love it because of all the history and tradition behind these hand made pots and it retains heat very well.

I collect Russian tea cups (among all sorts of other tea cups) and would also love that Lomonosov Cobalt Blue net teapot.

Right now my drink of choice is Celestial Seasons Morrocon Pomagranate Rooibos (excuse the spelling). When I can have caffeine, I really like Yorkshire Gold, Twining's Black Currant, and Twining's Prince of Wales tea.

My teakettle is just an inexpensive white one from Wal-Mart, but I do collect teapots. It's been a long time since I got a new one, though. What I'd like to
get is a pretty carafe for keeping tea hot. They usually hold more than most teapots, too. I recently went to a tea at a friend's house, and she had a beautiful carafe that matched her Old Country Roses dishes. It worked well
for serving tea to a group.
My favorite tea right now is Constant Comment (decaf), but I also like Earl Grey and Darjeeling.

A carafe is a wonderful idea, Grace! One of my IRL friends has taken to bringing a carafe of hot water to park day for tea. So nice when the breeze is blowing off the ocean! It keeps hot for such a long time too! Better than my trick of leaving water bottles on the dash with teabags in them - solar tea, ya know!
