anyone have a camera they just love and can recommend?
What features do you like? hate? wish you had?
Thanks for your help.....I like to learn from other's mistakes and from their successes.....unlike my little sisters....but, I guess that is another story.....
thanks.....

Thanks for posting Chari - I am wondering the same thing. Also what are the advantages of a digital camcorder over the older vhs ones?

Another question - with a digital video camera - can you send videos over the internet.
Thanks.

Hi all,
I am not much of a technical wizard, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt. I wanted a digital camcorder for the ease of use. I wanted to be able to take the CD out and plop it into the DVD player and make it do. I didn't want to have to futzle with those cumbersome tapes and all of those cables and such again.
That said, I did some poking around Consumer Reports and a site that just reviews Camcorders and found that the Canon NTSC DC100 was just what I wanted. It cost around $500. It does some stills, which I didn't really care about....performs "okay" in low light, but none of them are stellar. It's easy to use....and that's really all I wanted. I'm not going to be doing lots of editing and things. Overall, I would recommend looking at some of the sites to prioritize what you want the camcorder to do and then comparison shop. I really like my little camcorder.
I am ashamed to admit that I rarely use it. My dd9 is the Family Chronicler. She takes most of the photos and now she does most of the video-ing. She will always go run and get the camera, when I might just let the moment pass out of sheer lazines . So, it's easy enough for a 9yo to use. Hope that helps.
Kathleen

Thanks for fine tuning my questions, Marilyn
I am tempted to get one for our trip.......since I seem to ignore my vhs one since it must be plugged in to work....even with a new battery

Oh, Kathleen! we must have posted very close to each other, because I missed your response. I am so sorry.
Since I posted, I did stop by Circuit City and saw what they had to offer.......I guess there is almost no such thing as anything BUT a digital camcorder these days........boy was I out of the loop ...no surprise here! ......and boy are they small! I am afraid I may lose them!
So, I saw the type of camera you mention.......is it really that easy.... Just poping it out and into a DVD player? With all of the performing my kids have been doing in this last year.......it would have been nice to have recorded some of it
anyone else have any other advice?
I would like to know what camera you own, and how you like it. And, so would Marilyn! .......esp. because she has a new baby coming!

Our old video camera (nearly 10 years old - is a huge thing and very temperamental!! The new ones do look tiny.
I have another question for Kathleen re the digital camcorder - if you can play the dvd on the computer - is there also a way to send the images through email or put on a blog. We have a lot of family in foreign countries who cannot play US videos or dvds on their machines - and it would be so great to send video through the email or on a blog.
Thanks for any advice!
