Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know there's a thread on summer clothing, but we're just now getting some winter precipitation and temperatures. I realized that while I have made sure my son has snow pants and boots, I don't have anything really made for snow. As my son is little, I can't just send him out to play by himself in the snow...

I've got boots that will work. I just need something that I can actually get down and and really play, and not be timid about getting wet and cold.

So, any suggestions for light snow pants or bib, not heavily insulated that aren't expensive for Mommy?

It's the expense that gets to me! I've been meaning to get some snow pants, but haven't yet. I won't this winter because of my pregnancy, but it's on my list. I just haven't seen anything that's under $65 or so. I don't want to spend that much...

I know...but then I think they should last me for almost forever if I don't gain weight. I was thinking of similiar lines to this post when we had an opportunity to play in the snow. I'm failing my son!

Look for SHELL pants.. or any waterproof pants (rain suits?).. since you're not talking horrible cold or for super long periods of time.. you should be able to find something for $20 or less then you just layer the clothes under them for the warmth.

I'd try any local store in town that might carry something.. the local variety store (precurser to something like walmart) and home and ranch supply stores are were to look here.. but any outdoor store and places that carry winter coats would be places to look.. look for men's too.. hmmm also military surplus type stores.

I agree with Jodie. Shell or wind pants, over polar fleece pants, over silk longjohns (if necessary) is my winter snow gear.

And this is actually the time of year when you can find snow pants at clearance and discount prices. I was finding some in the $30 and less range online.

I wear my Dh's coveralls. You know, the mustard colored ones that workmen wear. It's not a beautiful look but works for getting out in the snow with the kids.

Me, too. And you can get them CHEAP at a farm supply store.

I got snowpants from Campmor last year-when we moved to Ohio. They were around $20-30. Lately I am using them everyday and am so glad I have them I am not the most beautiful thing out there in the snow but we have fun--and I can make snow angels with the best of them. I also bought some very good mittens-they were as much as the pants! Both a great investment.
In Va, I found the windpant/sweats/waterproof hiking boots worked fine. Winter just wasn't as intense as here.

Until you find the perfect snow pants wear nylons, then leggings, then your jeans and if you feel you need it, your husband's jeans. I actually preferred this layering as it was less bulky than our old snowsuits were. You can go out this morning in this get-up!
The nylons seem to be the key...

Thanks for the great, great, suggestions. I think we're lacking with a few requirements for the easy suggestions.

ROFLOL If only you knew! I wish he had some coveralls! He's not quite the type. The only "outdoor gear" he has right now is for golfing! A couple of years ago he went to his first bird shoot (first hunting, everything). I know it sounds like a girl, but he had nothing to wear!

And Jennifer, I don't even know if he has jeans right now! And I certainly don't. It's not a modesty thing, trust me...I have never, even in my svelt days, looked good in jeans!

But thanks. I'll keep my eyes open. It's mostly for out trips up North to Nana's and the occasional snows here. I knew you ladies would help!
