I thought a little poll would be fun.
Which do you prefer? Pie or cake? Yes, I thought of cookies, and custards and ice cream, etc. but we're keeping it between the two biggies.
I would think if you prefer cookies you're more of a cake eater anyway.

I'm thinking of a nice pecan pie....but can't have anything sweet right now because of gestational diabetes . Maybe after this little man is born, we'll celebrate

Cay, this is so fun! I voted cake - though, believe me, I do love pie. I can think of no more perfect dessert than a lovely little frosted cupcake ...

I definitely prefer pie. Even those of us who can't eat wheat can eat some filling out of some pies . The exception would be frozen custard cake (like an ice cream cake but richer). But since there is really NO cake at all in that, it's not cake...
My favorite pie is a fresh berry pie with a filling where the berries aren't cooked so the retain the crispness of fresh berries.

I voted for pie, but I need to explain why.
There is only one kind of pie that I eat, and that is French Silk pie from Baker's Square. Period.
I like several kinds of cakes, but if I have to pick between cake or the above pie? It's the pie...

I voted pie. Pie is more versatile -- you can have savory pies right? Think quiches, shepherd pies, spinach pie, pie in a bite (empanaditas), pizza pie, besides all the sweet pies like fruit and custard pies and chocolate mousse pie and key lime cheesecake pie, etc. And pies like calzones and empanadas and pasties are such an easy thing to take to picnics and on long-drives.
Can't do the same thing with cake, not even cupcakes. 'Nuff said.

Pie. I like some texture. My grandmother baked prizewinning pies. I keep trying to duplicate hers with little success. She did not use recipes.

I'm sorry, Maureen. I had that with my pregnancy and it is hard. But having a healthy baby is such a good motivation.
I'm a cake person, but picky about what kind of cake...chocolate flourless tortes, death by chocolate cake, kahlua cake...do you see a pattern? I just never warmed up much to pies. And trying to stay away from wheat usually precludes both choices.

I like the ideal that pies offer (my freezer is full of those yummy sounding pies that scent up my kitchen so nicely), but I eat the cake. Dh eats the pies.

Definitely pie. I don't like frosting so that precludes many cakes. And I LOVE a good pie crust! Even as a child I always had my mom make me a birthday blueberry pie (with candles!) rather than a cake.

LOL, I'm with Meredith! My grandmother made the most wonderful *true* Boston Cream Pie, with homemade pudding tucked within a delicate cake and creamy chocolate. I think I'll choose that one!

Meredith, you're brilliant.
Boston Cream Pie is my absolute favorite too. When we have friends over I always have one on hand. Always! Everyone seems to enjoy it. All that chocolate.

It's the crusts that ruin the pie for me. I scrape off the filling to eat it, and end up with a mess on my plate. The ending visual makes me not even want to start to eat. It's about so much more than the flavor....
