The front door wreath thread was so inspiring as was the china closet thread( BT to Alice on both, I think
I was wondering what everyone had as a centerpiece for their tables in the middle of winter. We had ouradvent wreath as a centerpiece and that's gone now, of course. It seems too early for Valentine's Day decor, but maybe not.
So ladies, a peek at your dining/kitchen tables?

I have been thinking about that too! It has to be non-breakable and easy to move off the table for projects.
I was thinking of cutting fresh greens from our woods and arranging them in a pretty basket with cloved oranges. Wintery without being too Christmasish. But there must be some better ideas.

Bridget, I love your idea! We're planning to do a woodsy centerpiece as a craft project this weekend. Clove-studded oranges would add the perfect touch!

We have a gingergread house that morphed into a Valentine's House (after we didn't get it done for Christmas) on our table. Lots of red candy on it, with pink icing. Since it's ona foil covered cardboard, we can move it easily.
I can see I am going to get tired of it way before Valentine's!

I have a dark blue primrose in a basket and a candle.
Super simple but I love primroses this time of year!

I have nothing right now, but a rice cooker. However, there's a sale at Michael's and I'm hoping to get a cheap glass vase and some pussy willow branches. If not I think I'll use Dawn's oranges with cloves. We had planned to do those for our Christmas centerpiece but ran out of time.

I currently have a lovely Fontanini figurine of the Flight into Egypt (Mary on donkey holding infant Jesus, Joseph leading donkey) flanked on both sides with two star shaped crystal candleholders (from our Epiphany celebration). This is a litugical mish-mash to be sure, but I suffer severe Nativity set withdrawal symptoms post-Christmas .O.K. so that is the centerpiece, just don't ask what other clutter is on that table...it's not a pretty sight!

This is great, Liz. We have a kit that was never used over the holidays. I was wondering if it would last until next year, but I think we'll make it a 'valentine house' now! :)
My table is bare at the moment, but last year I was given a star-shaped rustic looking little dish. Before Advent, I had that with a smallish mason jar of flowers and sometimes a candle. In the Fall I added a small pumpkin, so maybe I'll find a heart of some kind to add to it and get some pink or red flowers.

Just checking back in on this thread. My table is still bare. I like the primrose and candle idea, do they need much sun and can you plant them outside in the spring?

I have a bouquet of flowers in a clear vase. My dh bought them for me, just because...
When they die, I think I'll put out a Valentine's centerpiece.

So, I "cloved" a couple of oranges this morning and put them on our table. By noon, the girls had decided that they looked like porcupine bodies and proceeded to put sticks in them for arms and legs and make play dough heads for them. Voila! So, we have orange porcupines as our centerpiece.

Suzanne that is so funny! lol That sounds like something I would have done as a kid haha. My brother and I were always doing stuff like that to my mom.
How do you "clove" oranges? It sounds interesting! (And inexpensive?)
I found some really lovely and spill-proof cloth table cloths at Bed, Bath, & Beyond that I just love. Other than that I have 2 pillar candles and a crystal bowl from Tiffany's (a wedding gift) that I should NOT have out with a 1 and 2 year old! I REALLY need a new set up because this one makes me nervous!

Currently, I have piles of library books on the table to go back tomorrow.
We usually have a statue of the Blessed Virgin with a small candle as a centerpiece and flowers in season.

Our current centerpiece is the "Mary Tree" we started on January 1st. Right now it is decorated with the January Mary ornaments we made (Theotokos, OL of Prompt Succor, & OL of Altagracia). Will be replacing those soon (or just adding - haven't decided which) with the February ones. We haven't decided which one's to make - definitely OL of Lourdes. There aren't other really well known Feb. ones. I might do "The Presentation of Our Lady" even though it isn't a title or name she is known by - but I guess an event would be fine.

Truly, truly BEAUTIFUL. I know I've said it before, but !
I really loved reading all these ideas. We still have a large red hurricane lamp with a fat white candle on our table, but, Kelly, thank you for getting me thinking about something a bit less Christmas-y!
