I am just curious......
Willa's tea pot sounds beautiful, like the violins warming up.....my sister's sounds slightly similar, but not quite as pretty
Gloria's shrieks.....mine screams 
I just used my dad's to make a cup of tea just now...his tea pot has a true, high-pitched whistle, not really annoying at all.
...and, with Willa's, you don't mind if you do not get to it right away....with mine, I try to turn it off before it screams, or I do not even close the spout at all 
so, I am wondering.....what does everyone else's sound like?
If you do not remember, go make yourself a cup of tea, on me, of course  .......and then report in.

I know what you mean!!  My tea pot puts out this ear-splitting shriek that makes you feel like you are going to go deaf! I can't stand it! I have to run through the house to save it when it does that! it scares the baby too.  I want to get a new one, but it seems like a waste since it's a perfectly functional, Oxo teapot that I've only had for 1.5 yrs. Oh well.
My mom's always sounded pretty nice. I wonder what makes the difference?

Mine just has a quick bell sound. But I may be cheating, since mine is electric. Funny thing is that before I bought it, I read reviews on Amazon in which people complained about the horrible sound the kettle made! Boy, they must have quiet houses!
My mom's used to just whistle, nothing obnoxious.

As I recall, Alice's used to sound like a harmonica chord. I loved loved loved it. Do you still have that one, Alice?
No more whistling kettle here, as we have switched to an electric teakettle. I have to say I'm hooked! I make more hot drinks than ever, now.

Whoo hoo Lissa! Another convert. The ONLY thing I find not favorable about an electric one is that I sometimes forget about it and the water goes cold (but that takes a while so I obviously didn't want tea anyway in that case.)
However my old kettle didn't whistle either and I would all too often forget about it too and leave the water to all boil away. I ruined quite a few that way.

On some kettles you can replace the whistle. Here is a cute looking one, how it sounds however is unknown! But I thought $6.50 wasn't too bad a price for the bird whistle and if your diameter of the spout is the same it should work, right?

Mine has this deep whistling sound that is quite annoying.
Fortunately for me I make my coffee early in the morning after dh has left for work and before dd gets up. So I can hear it winding up for the big obnoxious sound and I turn it off before it gets loud. :D
Oh and if you're wondering why I'm using a tea kettle to make coffee ... nope that's not a typo. I use a French press to make my coffee. :D

Just a note from a slightly bemused Brit about names of things. To me, a teapot is the ceramic (or silver, if you're posh ) thing you make the tea in. A kettle is what you boil the water in -- usually electric, but some have the whistling kind that you put on the stove.
Anyway, it's quite funny to me that an item which is completely standard in all British kitchens -- even student bedrooms -- is an innovation for Americans!
