Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I received a $25 gift card to Barnes and Nobles. Great gift! But, now I am trying to figure out just what to buy with it.

Should I get a few childrens books? A good family read aloud? Spiritual reading? A DVD? A CD? Mother Culture? I am terrible at making these kinds of choices!

So, what would you purchase with it?

I would go for some mother culture!

I really enjoyed the book Crunchy Cons. Got my brain working for something other than the best way to get out laundry stains and how to keep a three year old in her bed!

You could always go for some sweet, romantic movie. Maybe some Cary Grant or Audrey Hepburn classics.

Have fun! I always agonize over such decisions.

I agree with Molly. It's your gift. Buy you some Mother Culture.

Of course, I find that children's storybooks are often my favorite Mother Culture.

For what it's worth, I would only buy myself something that I could not get at my library. (Like Catholic spiritual reading.) Or, alternatively, something that I would read again and again, or over a long period of time. (I'm thinking of The Hidden Power of Kindness, or something similar.)

Other than that, I'd opt for a movie, music CD, or a great family read aloud.

Have fun!

What about a beautiful journal, sketchbook or datebook for yourself? Something that would be a pleasure to use everyday.

Ohhh, I like the journal idea! Most books that I would refer to again and again I just go out and buy myself anyway. Any real good CM books I should have, or would any of you recommend the Homeschool Companion? I just don't know! I keep filling and refilling my cart!

Thanks for all the recommendations. I ended up purchasing Days From the Heart of the Home by Susan Branch

I love her Notes from a Vineyard Kitchen, and this one is a mix between personal journal/homekeeping journal, looked good to me!
