After mass last night, we went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Our two older kids both ordered off of the adult menu, so we had four adult orders, three kids orders, a nursing baby, and a bunch of sodas . While we were dining, a nice older couple came by on their way out to compliment us on our big family and well-behaved children--that's always so nice to hear, isn't it?
Well, don't you know, when we went to pay the bill our waitress said that the couple who came by had picked up the tab and tip for us. We were astounded! I mean, with the tip it was probably $70! They could've just thrown a couple of desserts our way, but no, they paid the entire bill. They wrote "Merry Christmas" on our bill. We had our usual waitress, so in the spirit of Christmas we left her another tip.
I still can't get over the generosity of this couple. And the ironic thing is that my dh was watching a "secret santa" segment on the news yesterday morning encouraging folks to do this, and he was thinking that HE would like to do that for someone--and here someone did it for us!

Molly -- that is truly nice....this really is the spirit of Christmas! My brother/SIL had this happen to them years ago in when they were in Fredricksburg, VA -- maybe it's Virginia!

What a beautiful thing for them to do. Your children must be very impressive.

Wow! I think I need to borrow your children to get some free dinner
What a wonderful story--and a great reminder that there is still that kind of generosity in the world.

No. It's not just VA. This happened to us in Alabama. We had five children then, and only four of them ate restaurant food, if I remember correctly. It is a HUGE, wonderful shocker when it happens, isn't it?
People comment on how well behaved our children are when we go out (not often anymore) fairly often. But I think they're a little reluctant to foot the bill for nine people!
Thanks for sharing this story, Molly. It reminds us all that Christians are everywhere.
God bless,

This happened to me also. I had taken the children out for breakfast after mass.(ages 9 & under and pregnant) I went to pay and it was already taken care of. It made me cry. I was so touched by this.
