Hey MacBeth, or any other city dwellers,
My younger brother is a struggling actor/poet/realtor in NYC. I am trying to think of something useful to give him for Christmas, like a restaraunt gift card. He is always short of money so maybe something that would be a treat he wouldn't be able to afford.
Any ideas? He used to live right by Ground Zero, but recently moved to McDougal St. Not sure exactly where that is and don't know if it is even relevant!
Thanks!

What a nice thought, Molly! And isn't it funny how people in NYC seem to have several jobs ?
How about a GC for Balducci's gormet food? Useful and fun!

My brother, too, is a poor bachelor in NYC.
I'm not sure of his gift yet - I'll be following your great thread!
But how about a small luxury he'd never buy - a cashmere scarf or leather gloves???

I love Balducci's. Great idea. Some others...
He's pretty close to Little Italy, a nice Italian restaurant... Pellegrinos
If he doesn't mind a subway ride uptown Zabars is great.
Stage Deli is touristy but fun.
This is the first year you can buy a gift card for Broadway show at Broadway Gift Card.
If he is a sports fan a Ticketmaster gift card can be used at Madison Square Garden for tickets to Rangers or Knicks games.
Hope this helps

Thanks Ladies!
The Broadway gift card looked great, until I read more. The minimum amount is $155.00! Ouch! Maybe if he wasn't one of six brothers.
The restaurants didn't have gift cards on their websites, but Zabar's did. Looks like a great place.
When my brother came down for Thanksgiving, we learned he had added yet another occupation to the list, custom window treatment installer. Apparently, quite the exciting job, he has been to several celebrity homes and even had a job lined up for a Victoria's Secret model. My teenage son was VERY impressed.
I haven't spent any time in New York, but it must cast a spell on people. He won't leave for anything, although he has been struggling to make ends meet for years there.

My brothers always loved homemade treats such as cookies, candies, pies, quick breads, nut mixes or snack mixes etc. Any kind of home cooking was always appreciated. There's something special about getting a package of home cooked treats in the mail this time of year...it really warms the heart, even with single bachelor types!
