I made a little coming home dress for the baby:
http://family-centered.com/needleworks/?p=75
On one hand I like its simplicity but on the other hand I keep thinking it "needs" something.
Opinions and ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I love it's simplicity, it's beautiful! I would put one small pink bow at the neck. Very sweet, Michele!

Okay, I am not a sewer, at all, but here is my suggestion.
At each wrist, on the rolled up cuff, a tiny white satin ribbon bow. You could tack it on such that it helps keep the cuff rolled up.

Wow - that is so beautiful. I can not sew a bit and am in awe of all the talent on this board.
My thought would be to buy a little pink ribbon rosebud to adhere at the top center of the collar and perhaps even one on the little sleeve cuffs.

That is quite amazing Michele! If you could have seen me the other night trying to sew on numerous Cub Scout patches, you would have laughed really hard. I am in no way a seamstress so I cannot offer any suggestions as to how to embelish the dress. I think it is simply beautiful just as it is.

Michele, the dress is lovely! How nice that you're able to sew for your family. I'm a baby seamstress, and always impressed what the more experienced out there can do!

Rebecca, have you seen Badge Magic? They sell it in our Scout store, and it's been very handy for me. It's not perfect, but then it wouldn't be perfect if I sewed them on either!

Noreen, I have never seen that product. It looks great! I had ironed them on with an inferior product and they all fell off in the wash. Then, I tried to sew them on, bunched up the fabric something awful, jammed my machine, messed up the tension and sewed a sleeve shut!
I will check out Badge Magic next time I am at the scout shop. Thanks!

Oh Rebecca how frustrating! I promise I would not have laughed at you - I would have just done it for you!
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. The thing is I don't want anything that will be uncomfortable for her. Sometimes stitching on the bodice can poke and if she likes being on her tummy it could bother her (know what I mean?). I am thinking something on the sleeve cuffs or hemline will probably be what I do. That is if I make it that far. I've been having some pretty good contractions on and off for the past few days so I'm hoping it won't be much longer.

Michele,
That dress is the sweetest thing! I always looked for comfy dresses like that for my girls, and never came across much in the stores. You make me want to pull out my sewing machine and... "bunch up the fabric, jam my machine, mess up the tension, and sew a sleeve shut"
You are so talented, and the dress is so, so lovely as it is!

What about a bit of Embroidery around the hem or contrasting blanket stitching on the neck to armhole seam - that wouldn't rub too much, would it? It looks like you made it folded out like a flap (golly, that sounds awfully seamstressy, doesn't it?)

What about the tiniest little embroidered flower at the neckline.
I also like the bow on the cuff idea.

Hi Michelle,
Our baby girl is due 12/5/06. If I had the energy and time I would try to "whip up" a dress. I am just learning how to sew and I love it! But I am very slow. I think the dress is just beautiful. I would try to add something on the hemline.
I am also having contractions and I am 3cm dilated!! But I have been for the last week and a half. Oh well.
Beautiful Job!!

Michele,
Have you done wastecanvas cross stitch -- I think a small motif (seasonal or patron saint symbol) would just add a bit.....I don't like to sew things ON baby outfits (buttons, ribbons, patches) because they can so easily go in the mouth.
When JP was christened (on the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe) we had a gown for him that had an angel cross-stitched on the front -- that was the only decoration and boy did it look sophisticated!
Just a thought!

Rebecca, I broke the needle while trying to sew a hem on cutoffs so that they looked proper. This was years ago. I'm still just slightly afraid of my machine. I think I might have trashed the whole machine if what happened to you would've happened to me.

I agree. I don't allow anything but flat buttons on my babies. I absolutely can't stand the ones that stick out. I don't know whether a tiny, flat bow at the top would be a problem. Whatever you do, it will be a smashing success.
Michelle, we're praying for you for an uneventful and safe delivery here. God bless,

I'm as far from a seamstress as one could imagine, so I have no suggestions.
Just a few "ooohs" and "ahhhs" ... I think it's simply beautiful!

Michele ~ That is SO pretty! I love simple dresses, yet they are not easy to find! I may just have to pull my machine out again ~ you've inspired me!
How exciting about the contractions! Can't wait to hear the good news! Get some rest mama!
