Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Wow, I didn't realize how well my 5yo ds has been doing until he ate candy received at our All Saints Day party. (The kids all got candy - not as much as in past years but it was enough to make them happy. This ds actually climbed on top of the refridgerator and got his bag when I didn't realize it and ate a bunch.) He's been totally bonkers for 2 days. When I suspected he had ADHD I made a concentrated effort to keep food dyes and foods with high levels of sugar from his diet. I wasn't perfect but I can tell it had made a difference. Now we have to de-tox again. Hopefully the affects of the candy will be worn off and we will have a peaceful day. I am now a believer that sugar and food dies DO have an affect on children (at least mine). Praying for a more peaceful day here!

Becky,
I have a friend who has a daughter who reacts in a similar way to food dyes and sugar. She has her on the Feingold Diet. I don't know anything about the details of the diet, but according to her, it has made a big difference. Her daughter's sensitivity is so severe that she even sends her to birthday parties with her own special cupcakes.

Anyway, I pray that your son is feeling better and that you do have a peaceful day today.

I honestly think this will be our last year of celebrating Halloween. My 3 yr old sounds like your son. I keep finding her hidden in corners with the candy she has managed to sneak off with. When I catch her and take the candy her reaction is one of desparation. She cries and cries for candy when we have it.

The other children ask for it constantly but don't have the same intensity. I love candy and have come to understand it as an addiction. I go into withdrawal when I don't have it after having for a while. But when I eat too much I get very short-tempered. I am sure my little dd-3 shares my disposition for sugar sensitivity.

My dh just calls candy evil and gets so mad when I over buy for holidays. For me, the candy has an emotional charge to it when it comes to holidays. What is Halloween without candy corn, Christmas without a stockingful of candy and Easter without jelly beans? I think I somehow lose focus.

Anyway, just wanted to share your pain and give witness to what is like when you don't curve these cravings early in life.
