Here in CO the news is getting worse all the time. Our pro-life Congressman in the newly created 7th district, who won by less than 200 votes was pulled out by the Republicans to run against a very strong Catholic Democrat (not pro-life) for govenor. He's going to lose. The pro-life candidate that's running for the 7th is losing also, to a rabidly pro-fetal stem-cell fanatic. The pro-abortions candidate in my district doesn't even have a pro-life opponent.
I finally heard the news that Rick Santorum is losing and I was so saddened and shocked.
Needless to say, fasting is in order. I see by my calendar that Novenas should be started on Monday, 10/30. Anyone have a suggestion for a strong Election Novena saint?
How are things going in your state?

PA is my state. We are praying hard. Casey is not pro-life and frankly I think he's a snake. If we lose Santorum we will be very sorry indeed.
Pray, pray, pray!

St. Thomas More was the first thought I had. I googled and found this Election novena. It's lengthy but good.
Election Novena
Our Father. . .
Hail Mary. . .
Glory be. . .
Lord, into your hands do we commend our country during
this time of election. Be with those who vote, be with
those who work the polling stations, be with those who
count the votes, certify the elections, and all who are
involved with the process. Lord, we pray that in our
choosing, we may reflect your choice and that our
country be in your hands, now and forever, Amen.
O Most gracious Virgin Mary, beloved Mother of Jesus
Christ, our Redeemer, intercede with him for us that we
be granted the favor which we petition for so earnestly
in this novena...O Mother of the Word Incarnate, we
feel animated with confidence that your prayers in our
behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of
God. O Glorious Mother of God, in memory of your joyous
Immaculate Conception, hear our prayers and obtain for
us our petitions.
that the hand our Our Father guide our country during
this upcoming election,
that those who would disrupt and disturb the heritage
of freedom and truth be restrained,
and that the hand of God guide, direct and determine
our leaders this election cycle and always.
O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ,
you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this
earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray
for us and obtain for us from him the granting of my
petition if it be the Divine Will. Amen.
St. Thomas More, adorer of Christ's Passion, who put
prayer before all else, devoted husband and father,
defender of the Church, perfect model of friendship,
impervious to all bribery, committed to the common
good, who reverenced civil and Divine law, civil judge
of unimpeachable integrity patron of those who hold
public office, pray for us now at this critical time of
election, where so much is at stake, where the lives of
the unborn and those most vunerable hang in the
balance, where the lives of the downtrodden and
defenseless against the terrorist are most at risk.
Pray for us, St. Thomas More, martyr for the truth,
that with this election, we may draw ever closer to the
way God would have our country governed.
Little Souls, children unborn, holy innocents, ripped
from your mothers' wombs and now in the hand of our
loving Lord, pray for us now, that the election may go
to the one most likely to help stem the holocaust of
souls of the most vunerable, the one most likely to be
the champion of life and set our nation on the right
track.
Amen.

Michele Q -- thanks for the novena prayer -- I may "hijack it" for my blog!
Colorado could certainly use prayers -- we've got single-sex partnership "rights" on the ballot, definition of marriage, and public preschool in addition to the dearth of strong candidates!
We'll start the novena on Nov 29th -- hey Momwise and MaryM, wanna get together one day and have the kids do the novena together? We could meet here...

By all means Mary - I'll be posting it on mine for sure!
The more people praying the better!

Oops... you're right, it should be started on the 29th. Thanks Michelle for the excellent novena. Thomas More is more appropriate than you know; we have 2 "devout" Catholics running for governor and one of them has vowed to approve Over the Counter Emergency Contraception, same-sex marriage and abortion (he's winning). Yeah Mary, how about praying together the last day (day before election day)? Or if youhave HOPE we could get together here.

We must pray hard for Santorum. I went with another 4Real mom (momtomany) to a pro-life Santorum event yesterday. Although I live in a VERY pro-life area of PA many people here are democrats before they are Catholics and believe Casey when he says he is pro-life (he most certainly is not). I definitely live in Casey country (he lives a couple of blocks from me) and see nothing but Casey signs when I take my morning walk. I got 2 Santorum signs yesterday that I will be putting in my yard. It will be a sad day if he is not re-elected. I will definitely be praying the Novena.

This quote reminded me of a CCM post by me two years ago. I'm still sad.
I will pray the Novena and post a link to here from the "We Pray to the Lord" forum.
Hi Beth and Mary Ann...keep up the great work in NEPA .
Love,

Hi Angie!!!
We are trying hard here in our little corner of PA!
Michelle, thanks for the novena!! Beth has posted it in our local Catholic homeschool group website.
I think I'm going to try and pray an extra rosary each day for the victory of pro-life candidates all over the country. Driving seems to be a good time for that.

Things are very difficult here in Missouri with the Amendment #2 that is pro-human cloning. Please pray it is defeated.
