Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not a vegetarian, but I was hoping that some of you who are might be able to answer this question...

Do you or don't you need to eat complementary proteins at the same meal in order to get a complete protein? Or do you just need to eat complementary proteins in the same day? Or do you even worry about it?

I've read that you need to eat complementary proteins at the same meal in order for your body to be able to combine them into complete proteins, but then I've also read that this isn't true, that you can just eat a variety of incomplete proteins throughout the day and your body will still be able to meet its protein requirements. Who is right?

Dawn

Dawn, I am not a vegetarian (although I was one for years, a couple of which I was vegan). I think the protein combining that you are talking about was covered in Frances Moore Lappe's book "Diet for a Small Planet". I am relatively certain that most of the information on combining proteins has been refuted, even, later, by Lappe herself. Here is something you might find useful about protein requirements and combining.
