Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, I finally took the plunge and started a blog.   All the wonderful 4Real blogs inspired me to start.   I have been having some troubles learning about how to make links, etc., but I am getting there slowly.

Guess I am still not too good at linking things. I put the link in my signature (I hope) after posting this. Trying again to see if it will show up correctly now.

Blessings,
Sharie

Sharie,

I was just over checking out your blog and then saw this I'm looking forward to reading more about life on an American ranch. What size is your ranch, when American's say ranch do they mean a very large property like our outback stations (which are measured in square miles ) or are you talking a large property as in hundreds of acres?

I am very much enjoying your blog! I left a comment about horses on one of your posts. We have horses, too, but I just can't seem to find the energy for them lately. I wish I knew what to do as dh is saying we need to get rid of them if we don't ride them more. He is right, of course, but I sure would hate for that to happen. How do you find the time and energy to work a ranch while homeschooling?

Theresa,

All I can say is that it isn't easy! I do all the bookkeeping and paperwork for the ranch, but don't do as much outside as I used to. When I first married dh, the ranch ran 2500 cows and I fed 10 tons of hay by myself every day of the winter(dh was feeding his own 10-15 tons). The boys are big enough to be out there helping dh now on the day to day chores.   I still help on days that we work big bunches, like shipping, branding or pregnancy testing. I also take some of the shifts when we are calving heifers, but again, not as much as I used to.

Dh and I both trained horses - I used to train and show a lot for my parents (they raised Paints in AZ). We are in the process of handing the training over to the boys. Even though we all love the horses and everyone rides, it is hard to find time to break new colts since they started playing sports in town. I don't have time to ride with all the other responsibilities and I do miss it....but something has to give.

This is the season of children - growing bodies, minds and hearts for the Lord...this will pass all too quickly....then, God willing, there will be a season to ride again.
