Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know this is an odd thing to post, but maybe someone can help me.

We have a drain in the basement, in which our A/C drains. It's in the cement, with a filtered opening (which doesn't seem removable).

Now it seems to be clogged. In my last house the A/C man suggested running boiling water and bleach down the pipes and drain periodically, but that isn't going anywhere. A snake won't fit through the filter unless I can find a way to remove it. Now that I have bleach down there I don't think I can put other chemicals (and don't want to). Anyone have a plumber husband that can offer advice? Simple advice, like what are these parts called, so I know what phrase to Google or to sound intelligent when I talk to a repairman. And do I call a plumber or A/C guy?

Ei, ei, ei. It's always something.

No, won't work. The drain is small, but it's right up against the hot water heater. Couldn't get enough of the plunger around it to create suction. Wish it were that easy.

I was going to recommend shaking baking soda down the drain followed by vinegar followed by boiling water...but with bleach already down there, I just don't know!

Definitely commiserating with you Jenn, our AC is draining into the bilge while we work on another thing and after the bilge pump runs there is now an awful odor so we dump bleach in and let it set then flush with more water and it's good for a few days at the most.
