Hi,
What are some of the best meals you can think of when you are bringing meals to a family that just had a birth, or surgery, or whatever?
I always think of Lasagne, but I am sure many others do too , and so I am trying to think up some others.
Thanks,

I made Jen's Crock Pot Beef in Coffee over risotto with fresh green beans for a new mom last week. It was a big hit.

best meals i have received:
minestrone soup, salad and bread
chicken, rice and cut up veggies (my kids loved these)
tacos - again, my kids loved that they could make them to suit themselves.
i know that one dish meals are easiest on the cooks, but i have some picky children and after a while, those one dish meals get to feeling pretty heavy. especially if it seems you are having mexican week.

I love Jen's Crock Pot Beef in Coffee. That recipe is a keeper!
After I had my last baby, a friend brought us fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, along with several side dishes and dessert. My children thought they were in heaven!

Thanks so much! It's always nice to hear when others enjoy it. I actually have that planned to make for us and my brother for their new baby this week.
I just made Chicken and Fresh Tomatoes with brown rice for my brother and his wife. It's a Spanish dish, perhaps a little more work, but lots of raving.
This is the Baked Chicken recipe we make for new moms. The directions are below...it's hard to do in writing, and the directions are longer than it really takes. It's sinfully simple....but people really like it.
Baked Chicken
whole chicken, fryer
Lawry's Salt
Aluminum foil -- 18" wide works best
Baking pan, such as Pyrex
Make sure chicken is completely defrosted, or you will have to add to cooking time. You can cook several chickens at a time, but if you are cooking more than two you will have to add to cooking time and/or increase the temperature.
Turn oven to 350 degrees. Tear off about 2 - 2 1/2 feet of aluminum foil and lay out flat on counter. Sprinkle with water droplets in the middle of the foil and then sprinkle Lawry's salt onto the foil (the water makes it stick!). Be careful to not puncture the foil throughout this process.
Wash off chicken, remove gizzards and such from the inside of the cavity, rinse out well. Sprinkle Lawry's liberally all over chicken, including inside.
Place salted chicken in the middle of the foil. Bring both edges to the middle and fold down over the chicken. Then each end, fold edges in several times to keep juices from coming out.
Place chickens in baking pan and place in oven. Bake for approximately 2 hours. If you need more or less time, increase or decrease oven temperature. The chicken can bake longer and will just become more tender.
Serve with rice, using the au jus gravy. Cooked spinach or broccoli in the microwave and/or green salad balances out the meal.

When my Dad was dying/passed away so many people gave us meals! It was such a beautiful out pouring of generosity. However, after all was said and done, I couldn’t eat another pasta dish or chicken for about six months!!!!
Therefore, I always try to bring something other than this figuring that someone will bring pasta or chicken
The favorite meal that someone brought my family when we had our second child was pizza from our favorite pizza place!! It wasn't home cooked, but it was special!! :)
Meals that I have made that went over well have been Chili and BBQ Beef.

My favorite meal that a neighbor brought when I miscarried was a wonderful cold pasta salad with turkey.

I have a special macaroni and cheese recipe I make with smoked gouda, mozzarella and provolone and a whole wheat bread crumb/butter topping. Anyway, it is delicious and it makes a full 9x13 so if it is for a small family, I save half for our dinner ;). I send a salad in a bag and a desert with it to complete the meal.
The best meal I ever received? Well, there have been quite a few fabulous ones: forty cloves chicken, ribs, yes, lots of lasagnes, but THE BEST, was the night I came home from the hospital with my first born and someone delivered a large wooden platter with a two foot long freshly grilled salmon, potato salad and a HOMEMADE angel food cake. WOW!
